Toxic overload is a topic that’s been at the forefront of my conversations with many clients recently. Our modern world thrives on convenience (and cheaply) in many forms, which often equates to our bodies being exposed to toxins at astonishing rates. Your food, water, skin care, clothing, cleaning supplies and even air all contribute to the load of toxins your body processes.

The good news is our bodies have the ability to detoxify to free vital cellular and organ activities so we can function efficiently. While detoxification is a complex process, ways we can aid in doing so are simple:
⛰️ Staying hydrated to support kidneys
⛰️ Practice deep breathing exercises and techniques to support respiratory system
⛰️ Sweat! Sweating is a vital tool for allowing our skin to eliminate toxins
⛰️ Movement and exercise to support our lymphatic systems (and yay, sweat!)
⛰️ Sleep, and having adequate sleep, which is when most of our detoxing occurs
⛰️ Proper digestion to eliminate waste and a nutrient dense diet ALWAYS

$4.3 trillion. That’s the amount the U.S. spends on healthcare each year. That averages out to $12,900 PER PERSON each year. Which raises the question of how much money of that is spent on lifestyle illnesses and health afflictions we could avoid? While we know there is no one stop cure for any health crisis our country faces, much could be avoided if we knew how to functionally support our bodies and systems with whole, nutrient dense foods. Think of how much each person could save in healthcare costs.

I saw a quote recently that said “If you don’t make time for your wellness you will forced to make time for your illness.” Read that again.

Now is the time to heal, restart and support our bodies through nutrition and movement 🌲

I’ll admit the idea of Spring Cleaning gets me all giddy. I enjoy taking stock of my space and giving attention to areas that really need sprucing up. Everyone loves a clean home you can relax and settle into.

160 lbs - that is the average yearly consumption of sugar per person in America. And that’s an average (many Americans consume more). We are drastically affecting our health with heavily processed, carbohydrate heavy , sugar-laden diets. As Americans we are setting ourselves up for insulin resistance, lifestyle diseases and obesity. At alarming rates.

Last week on my stories I shared how I reuse sauces and dressings and I am back with a recipe. If there’s one small change you can make today - ditch the store bought dressings! They’re laden full of hidden sugars and extra binding ingredients.

Here’s one of my favorite dressings I like to keep on hand in the fridge. It can be stored up to 1 week, and may solidify as it becomes cold - just run under warm water and mix again till creamy. It’s delicious on salads or a marinade for chicken.

Creamy apple cider vinegar:
1/4 cup nut or seed butter (I love sunflower seed butter here)
1 TB roasted sesame oil
1 TB avocado oil
3 TB raw apple cider vinegar
1 TB tamari
1 tsp grated ginger
1 tsp minced garlic
1 tsp raw honey
- Combine all ingredients in a blender, or in a bowl and combine with a whisk till smooth and creamy.

I haven’t taken a moment to welcome you, or introduce myself. I’m Leah and I’m the owner of Heliotrope Health. I’m a mom, a fur mom, a PNW girl and a food fanatic. I adore being outside in nature and hiking with my sweet BF. I also love being snuggled up under a blanket with a true crime doc on Netflix (fun fact, I was a criminal justice major 😆). I’m also a certified barre3 instructor and believe movement heals.

I earned my certification as a NTP with the goal of helping others find their healthiest selves through their relationships with the food they eat, all with the highest level of compassion. We are all learning, often slightly lost and many times feel defeated. And food can be our biggest tool to heal, restore and strengthen.

I hope to meet many through their own journeys and look forward to connecting with you all further. 🌲

It’s the freakin weekend friends!

Here in the PNW the temps are frigid and snow is forecasted. This cozy season leaves me wanting to stay home and hunker down. Here’s my favorite warm golden milk tea recipe to keep you toasty, with the added bonus of anti-inflammatory and digestive-happy ingredients.

Golden milk tea:
2 cups coconut milk
1 Tsp fresh grated turmeric (if you cannot find fresh, powder is a great substitute)
1 Tsp fresh grated ginger
1 TB honey
1/2 tsp cinnamon
Pinch sea salt
- Combine all ingredients in a small saucepan and heat over medium low. Stir to combine, allowing honey to melt.
- Pour into your favorite mug and enjoy!
