After a pet dies, many pet parents experience what are often called “grief anniversaries.” These can be yearly milestones that feel especially intense, stirred up by familiar weather, holidays, or memories tied to the time of loss. But grief doesn’t follow a strict calendar—shorter milestones can be just as powerful.
This week at Radiant Heart, we marked the six-month anniversary of the loss of our first shop dog, Tyson. He was the beloved companion of owner Bobbie Ruth Langley and was born just a few months before we opened our doors in 2013. For 13 years, Tyson grew up alongside Radiant Heart, becoming an essential part of our space and community.
He greeted people at the door, gently easing anxiety with his presence. He would climb into laps and fall asleep, offering comfort to those who needed it most. Our entire staff shared in his care—walking him throughout the day, keeping his water bowl clean and full, and, of course, giving him plenty of treats (bananas were his favorite).
We know many of you may be carrying this kind of grief, too. We just want you to know—you’re not alone.
