My passion to support families during the postpartum time began...
After my youngest child moved away from home two years ago I found that I had the time to consider what my life’s next work would be. While traveling, I met a postpartum doula in a client’s yard playing and caring for an infant. She briefly described her work as a postpartum doula, and I became inspired. As I listened, I instantly knew that this was work I could do, and do well. I realized my 23 years of experience as a mother and parent, my keen interest in how children develop, my innate ability to nurture, and the desire to do work that helps others, would help me to become an excellent postpartum doula. This revelation inspired me to pursue the work of supporting families after the birth of their children.
As I delved into my training, studied, researched, talked with other doulas, and worked with mothers and families through the NAPS and DONA certification process, my motivation to be a postpartum doula grew and I began to see more clearly why I wanted to pursue this work. I am eager to honor and nurture women and families during the postpartum time. I want to give parents time and space to heal, learn about their newborn, discover their strengths, and adjust to the changes in their family. I endeavor to inspire them to create a “lovebubble”, a period in which time slows down, offering parents the opportunity to cherish and learn about their newborn, and to grow and evolve within themselves.
Warmly,
Gina Eiford, Certified Postpartum Doula NAPS
