🎉 Last week something AMAZING happened! 🎉
I set out to do my first 5K (officially a 6K) since my big meniscus injury in May 2021 that led to 3 subsequent surgeries.
My plan was to go out for a jog just like I would at home — you know, just another comfortable run to help me continue building volume and endurance on my back to a “normal” running routine again.
But, if you’re a runner, you probably know that it’s REALLY hard to stay accountable on an “easy” run when you have 700 other people running around you AND there’s a clock that’s keeping track.
🏁 So, while I tried my best to tame my inner competitive spirit, the fire raging inside was too big — and I crossed the finish line as the 11th overall female and 1st female in my age group!
It came totally unexpected — especially since much of the last 3 years has been spent accepting the real possibility that I would never be able to return to any level of running again (besides chasing my toddler on the playground).
But I’m back, baby. And it feels so good! 🥳
(P.S. I didn’t get here just with “time” or an average knee rehab plan. It took a special village of knowledgeable and motivated providers and supporters and a VERY strategic recovery process… which is the same level of care you get when you work with me for your own knee injury rehab and sports comeback).
💕 All this to say, if your story includes one or several knee injuries/surgeries that threaten to “take away” some of your favorite sports, don’t give up. Keep asking questions and finding answers — especially if there is a voice deep inside of you that believes something bigger is possible.
💗 Sending overflowing hugs and gratitude to for sticking by my side, cheering me on, and believing in me. And to for journeying through the unknown with me (and crushing it!)
