A different type of "resistance training" that is easy, effective, and kinda wierd.

Before trying this, please convert to consistent nasal breathing, the way human were meant to breathe 99% of the time.

Then you are ready to step it up to single nostril resistance training. I use wax plugs in one nostril and worked up to walking 5-7 minutes with one nostril plugged, then 5-7 minutes plugging the other nostril. It's doesn’t matter how long, just try it and explore sensations of air hunger.

It's amazing how it feels to breathe through both nostrils after breathing through only one.

Results from this training:
-improved breathing efficiency
-increase lung capacity
-decrease CO2 sensitivity
-better diaphragm activation

I'm always fascinated to learn how many people don't actually know their breath, which is not separate from mind, body, and soulful self.

Breath is life. Breath is energy. It's with us in every moment, ups and downs, lefts and rights, overs and unders, and directly through.

We all have a choice to either "blow it off", ignore it, or learn about this innate, life sustaining function of the body that we all share. Yeah, I'd say the breath it's pretty important.

A longitudinal study of 11,000 children reinforces the importance of teaching our children functional breathing.

Early life breathing troubles like snoring, mouth breathing, or apnea (6 months to 7 years old) aren’t just about restless nights. They predict real, lasting behavior challenges at ages 4 and 7.

Kids with these sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) patterns showed 20%–100% higher odds of hyperactivity, conduct issues, emotional struggles, and peer difficulties, even if symptoms waned early on.

A recent experimental study found that when adults know their breathing will be counted, their respiratory rate drops by about 2 breaths per minute! Plus, if you only count for 15 seconds instead of a full minute, the result underestimates breathing by ~2 bpm, and even a 30‑second count is off by nearly 1 breath/minute.

Most people think taking a deep breath means big, forceful inhaling... but that often leads to over-breathing and blowing off too much CO₂.

Deep ≠ Full. Breathe smart, not just big.

Capnography is a non-invasive monitoring tool that measures the concentration of carbon dioxide (CO₂) in exhaled air, providing real-time feedback on breathing efficiency and ventilation status. It tracks end-tidal CO₂ (EtCO₂), reflecting how well CO₂ is being transported, exchanged, and eliminated by the body.

In breath re-education and training, capnography is essential for identifying dysfunctional breathing patterns such as chronic hyperventilation or breath-holding. It allows coaches and clients to visualize CO₂ levels, optimize breathing volume and rate, and retrain respiratory control for improved gas exchange, nervous system balance, and overall respiratory health.
