I took this picture on October 4th, 2024 at 3:42am. Juniper was just 8 days old. She had woken up to breastfeed again, so we moved into the living room. Breastfeeding was ao hard for us in the beginning. It was very painful. I wasn't prepared for what I would need to do to successfully breastfeed, but I'm so grateful I had the support of !

I was gifted ni**le cream which helped immensely. I slathered that all over my ni**les to help with healing.

I purchased some silverettes which helped prevent chaffing against my clothes and made things just a bit more comfortable.

As I watched her sleeping contentedly on the second bed we had set up in the living room, I reached into the hot towel warmer which kept some wet towels warm for me, and I compressed them to my chest which felt so relieving. Or I'd go into the bathroom and press handfuls of water to my breasts.

I used silicone breast pumps to catch milk and create a little stash for my husband to be able to feed Juniper while I took long showers or even took an herbal postpartum bath soak.

I pumped using a donated pump from when latching was way too painful but I needed to maintain my supply.

I consulted with when I was planning to return to work to figure out the best pumping schedule for us.

10 months in, I'm so grateful for all of these things because we have a great breastfeeding relationship now.

If you find yourself starving when you go too long between meals, your body isn’t just hungry—it’s responding to a blood sugar crash. Satisfying your hunger with candy, chips, or chocolate can then give you a quick energy boost, followed by another crash—it’s a vicious cycle that can be hard to escape.

Chronic spikes and dips like these can take a toll on your hormones, energy levels, and even increase the risk of prediabetes or type 2 diabetes over time.
