NURSING SPOTLIGHT 🌟
“Hi, I am Anne and I have been with AGH for nearly 20 years. I am currently a night shift Charge Nurse in the Intensive Care Unit. I have held the same role on the day shift, as well as the role of Patient Care Supervisor.
I chose to come to Atlantic General Hospital for the community. I am a Worcester County local who had grown up in Snow Hill and lived in Berlin. It was always my ultimate desire during my nursing career to return to this area at some point to care for my family, my friends and their families. I had acquired critical care experience in several areas across the country and was ready to bring that knowledge and experience “back home” to care for those who had cared for me during my lifetime.
At Atlantic General Hospital, I have experienced a sense of camaraderie and bonding in the ICU. The staff here is one that holds great respect and care for each other and works well together. There is a respect for those who are part of this health care team that puts their patients first. I am blessed and fortunate to have been able to work with and gain wisdom from some outstanding physicians, fellow nurses and administrators. Some of those who have shown the utmost respect for the gift that nurses bring to the table every day.
I have also gained an added sense of pride and respect while here at AGH. For my family and friends, as well as family and friends of associates here, to ask that I care for them or check in on them gives me great pride that they entrust their care to me.
There are a few moments at AGH that I am most proud of. I have received a couple “DAISY Awards” while here at AGH. One of those DAISY Awards led to the recognition as the “2015 Nurse of the Year." 2023 brought another proud surprise when I was voted “Coastal Style Magazine’s Best of 2023” award winner as “Worcester County’s Best Nurse.” What honors! Not any that I would have expected or desired. It just gives me pride to know that I have made an impact on someone’s life in such a way, just using the gift that I am blessed that God gave to me.
I have been here for almost twenty (20) years and I can honestly say, though bitter sweet, that I see retirement in the near future. I have acquired many meaningful and heartwarming relationships with associates, and yes, some patients while here at Atlantic General Hospital. The respect for these individuals I will hold close at heart, and I will take these bonds into the next chapter of my life. The associates here have poured wisdom and knowledge into my experiences here, with so much respect. I pray I have given the same to them. While I remain amongst the Atlantic General Hospital family, I will continue to do what I’ve always done. That is to be a true advocate for my patients first and my coworkers, especially those new to this profession.
Regardless of where you work, never lose sight of why you chose this profession. It has always been about the person in the bed for me, and the families that wrap themselves around them at some of the worst times in their lives. It is the care that I am gifted to give to them at this unfortunate time. No one wants to be a patient in an intensive care unit. If I can relieve one iota of the stress, if I can alleviate just a second of fear, if I can be a smile on a gloomy day, and if I can be a glimmer of peace in those final hours -- then I have done what is best for my patient. ALWAYS DO WHAT IS BEST FOR YOUR PATIENT. Atlantic General Hospital WILL allow you to do that here.”
