Maryland Orthopedic Specialists

Maryland Orthopedic Specialists Our mission is to provide the highest quality orthopedic & sports medicine-focused care possible to athletes and individuals of all ages and levels.

Our practice is composed of three board certified orthopedic surgeons who are all fellowship trained in either sports medicine or hand surgery. We bring the highest level of patient-centered care available. We are partnered with a dedicated team of rehab specialists (physical therapists and athletic trainers), all of whom share a common goal, to return you to your peak form. Our physicians and therapists work in a team fashion, employing the most modern therapeutic techniques, and have literally helped thousands of patients each year recover from a wide variety of injuries. When surgical intervention is required, we utilize the most minimally invasive, joint preserving techniques available. With our advanced pain management protocol, patients are returning to work and sports in record time and with minimal discomfort. Our practice is sports medicine focused. For our younger athletes, we specialize in the prevention and treatment of both minor and major sports injuries. We are currently partnered with several area high schools, providing athletic trainers to the schools for true prevention and treatment of minor injuries, and to assess for more serious injuries. We host injury prevention clinics. We pretest all the athletes with an advanced neurocognitive software program, to aid in the management of concussion (click on Our Practice : ImPACT for details). We are acutely sensitive to the needs of our younger patients and will return the athlete to play as quickly as is safely possible. Our adult athletic patients range from current and former professional athletes to recreational and occasional athletes of all ages. While our goals may differ depending on your needs, we will always strive to keep you working hard and playing hard, for as long as you want. For the more worn out athletes, we are focused on joint preservation techniques. When those fail or are inappropriate, our adult reconstructive specialist will help you join the millions of patients with artificial joints, many of whom are still athletes. If you have a work related orthopedic injury, we will partner with your place of employment to return you to work quickly and safely. With our electronic health record, you can pre-enter your medical history and important visit history. You can make and change appointments, contact the office staff, request medication refills, and visit our patient education library. In the office, we can fill our most common prescriptions for you on-site, preventing a visit to the pharmacy and usually at the identical cost. We have digital radiology and a vast array of orthopedic braces. All of our services are designed to make your visit as cost and time efficient as possible. We will be constantly working to improve your experience.

Fresh snow might look beautiful, but it brings hidden dangers that can change your day in an instant. Every winter, our team sees a significant rise in slip-and-fall injuries. Icy walkways and slick driveways are common culprits for wrist fractures, ankle sprains, and even back injuries. A momentary loss of balance on the ice can lead to a long recovery process, but taking proactive steps can help keep you safe this season.

To protect yourself and your loved ones, consider these prevention tips:
• Choose the right footwear: Wear boots with heavy treads or traction devices to grip slippery surfaces.
• Walk like a penguin: Take short, flat-footed steps and keep your center of gravity directly over your feet.
• Keep your hands free: Avoid walking with hands in your pockets. You need your arms for balance and to catch yourself if you slip.
• Clear the path: Salt or sand your walkways early to prevent ice from forming.
While we hope you stay safe and upright this winter, we know accidents happen. If a slip on the ice leaves you in pain, don't wait to seek help. Maryland Orthopedic Specialists is here to provide the expert, compassionate care you need to heal properly.

Nothing ruins holiday cheer faster than a gout flare sneaking onto the guest list. Stress, indulgences, and your very own habits can set off attacks that can put you out of commission the entire season.

The good news? There are steps you can take to enjoy the holidays without gout flares getting in the way. Here are five ways to keep them in check.

1️⃣ Limit purine-rich foods like red meat, shellfish, and organ meats.
2️⃣ Drink plenty of water.
3️⃣ Avoid or go easy on alcohol, especially beer and spirits.
4️⃣ Stay active, even if it’s just a short walk after dinner.
5️⃣ Take your medication exactly as prescribed.

Foot gout becoming tough to manage? Dr. Gary Feldman, our board-certified podiatrist, can help you find the right treatment to reduce the frequency and intensity of flares. Contact our Bethesda or Germantown office for an appointment with Dr. Feldman.

🩺 Time for our Q&A series! Today's topic is bursitis, a joint issue many people mistake for arthritis.

Q: My joints hurt and are swollen. How do I know if it’s arthritis or bursitis?

A: Because arthritis and bursitis have similar symptoms and can even occur together, it’s often difficult to tell them without a proper medical evaluation. Your best bet is to see an orthopedic doctor, who can perform a physical exam, review your medical history, and order imaging tests like X-rays or an ultrasound to determine whether the problem is within the joint itself (arthritis) or the surrounding bursa (bursitis). Getting an accurate diagnosis is the first step toward relief.

So, skip the guesswork. Call us now to book an appointment with one of our orthopedic experts. 📞 (301) 515-0900.

Your body works as one connected system. If your ankle is stiff, your knee can take the strain. If your hip is weak, your back can start to ache. That’s called the kinetic chain. When one segment falters, the whole system bears the brunt.

Here at Maryland Orthopedic Specialists, our physical therapists look at the full picture—not just where it hurts. We carry out comprehensive biomechanical assessments to identify problems within the kinetic chain and educate patients on proper techniques and strategies to restore pain-free movement and prevent future injuries.

To schedule an appointment with one of our physical therapists, call (301) 515-0900.
