The Social House

The Social House The Social House provides a holistic approach to speech therapy and parent coaching.

At The Social House LA, we place the highest level of importance on a child's ability to actively participate in his/her world. We believe that the gateway to this achievement begins at home with mom, dad, grandma, big brother, au pair, and uncle. Through our program, your child will develop the skills required to follow social guidelines, form relationships, and learn new concepts. As a loving ca

regiver, you will simultaneously acquire training that will equip you to interact with your child during those times that can feel otherwise scary and overwhelming. Addressing delays in areas such as behavior, attention, and communication will support social and academic growth!

An autistic child is not a disordered neurotypical child. Services such as speech therapy should only be recommended to support a child’s sense of self and help them exist in a world as the person they wish to be.

The dictionary defines play as "engaging in activity for enjoyment and recreation rather than a serious or practical purpose." There is no correct way to play. There is no such thing as delayed play skills. All play is meant to be enjoyed and all children can play in their own unique ways, which leads to endless possibilities for developing creative minds. Enter a child's play space as they created it instead of trying to change it.

Gestalt language processing is a common form of language development in autistic individuals. These learners start by learning longer chunks of language that must be whittled down to single words and built back up again. Arriving at self-generated language can be a much longer route than with analytic language processing, which is more common.

The autistic communication style can look very different from a neurotypical communication style. It's not wrong or disordered. It's just different. Communication goals of support services should address self-advocacy and encourage understanding of one another's style; whether a neurotypical or neurodivergent communicator.

The DSM-5 calls it "restricted, repetitive patterns of behavior." Stimming serves a variety of important functions for an autistic individual. They may appear "odd" to the neurotypical population, but there is no need to stare or pass judgment on intelligence.
