• You learn to control the shape of your body by controlling your appetite, the foods you eat, the calories you count, and the way you exercise. What about the mind? The mind naturally wanders approximately 50% of the time, which triggers you to give so much power to the mind that the mind controls you, making you often feel easily agitated, anxious, depressed, and confused. Plus, the pace of the modern life is so fast, that your attention is constantly being pulled in many directions. Learn to train and control the mind, so that it doesn’t control you. Learn to exercise focused attention, where you direct your attention and become aware if your mind has wandered, and then being able to redirect your focus. Focusing begins with awareness, effort, adaptability, discipline, and a patient welcoming acceptance of your external and internal experiences. Imagine that your attention is like a laser beam or a flashlight that helps you show the way. Focusing your attention is what helps FREE your mind from the many distractions that cause stress, anxiety, worry, depression, and so on. Learn to focus.

When we become overwhelmed by emotions like anger or anxiety, we become one with it. It is omnipresent in our mind and body, leaving no room, no space for other mental states such as inner peace, patience or reasoning. A powerful way to deal with afflictive emotions and thoughts: stop identifying with them. You are not the emotion, you are not the conflict, you are not the anxiety, you are not the anger. The antidote is.. to be aware instead of identifying with emotions. Awareness is not affected by the emotion, it is observing.

A primary application of this stance is defense against high, jumping kicks. Baguazhang and Tai Chi forms use this stance for low hand attacks, such as “Snake Creeps Down” from the Yang-style Tai Chi sequence.

积谷备荒 七転び八起き for all of life's possibilities • Being prepared is not the same as being ready. The more complex the task or the event in your life, the higher degree of strategic thinking is required. It’s a skill that is born through a continuous practice and conscious experience. You learn to digest your reality, you are prepared, and you manage and survive a situation each and every time. Acceptance is key. Learn to let go and surrender to life’s flow. Staying focused is very important. Be aware, think ahead, let it go if you need to. It will save you much worry and stress. Ask yourself: would you rather be the one suffering or the one who is able to manage the situation? Even if it’s out of your control, staying prepared gives you peace of mind and confidence to get through any situation.
