I’m deeply disappointed to see that my wife’s heartfelt and compassionate Instagram post was rejected by Meta for being “political” when she tried to boost it. For context, my wife, Mary Ann, is a licensed therapist with specialized training to support the LGBTQIA+ community. Her posts are always rooted in love, kindness, and connection, especially for those in marginalized communities who often feel unseen and unheard.
This particular post, which Meta flagged, simply offers a message of hope and affirmation: “You are seen and loved.” It includes no mention of legislation, political parties, or specific policies—there is absolutely nothing political about it. It’s a message that should resonate with all of us, regardless of our backgrounds, beliefs, or affiliations.
Mary Ann’s goal with her weekly boosted posts is to reach more people who might need encouragement, especially those who are struggling. To call this kind of outreach “political” is not only misguided but also a troubling commentary on the state of freedom of speech and expression. When compassion and support for marginalized individuals are categorized as political, it’s a sign we need to do better as a society.
I stand with my wife and her commitment to creating a world where everyone feels valued and supported. Her work is not about politics; it’s about humanity. And I’ll continue to share her message far and wide, because everyone deserves to hear that they are seen, they are loved, and they matter.
