Ohio Birthparent Group

Ohio Birthparent Group Post-Adoption Support Groups and Resources in Ohio Our meetings are spaces for birth parents and allies to find support, education, resources and community.

Ohio Birthparent Group is a community organization committed to supporting the life-long needs of birthparents through peer support, advocacy and community education. Founded in 2010 by birthparents themselves, OBG was created to address the historic lack of services and significant barriers to social recognition faced by women and men who place children for adoption.

MUTUAL AID REQUEST: Hey folks, it's Kate Livingston here, founder of Ohio Birthparent Group. As you know, we aren't hosting groups anymore but try to maintain a web presence to stay connected with the many birthparents who came to our support groups over the years and serve as a referral resource. We occasionally receive requests for emergency help from folks who attended our support groups. One such request came in this week and I thought that our Facebook network might be able to help. I'm looking to raise 300 dollars in the next 24 hours to help one of our members with unexpected transportation costs. If you're able to help,
you can venmo me (venmo username is katelivingston). You can also email me directly at ohiobirthparents@gmail.com if you have questions. Thanks for considering this!

Special Event! Join us for the American online debut of this new film, Somebody’s Daughter, by Zara Phillips. Register here: https://www.adoptionnetwork.org/news-events/our-calendar.html/event/2024/04/01/-somebody-s-daughter-film-screening-online-american-debut-with-zara-phillips/475014

Adopted as a baby in the 1960s, becoming a backing vocalist to well-known bands in the 80s, and getting sober at 22, Zara takes us on her journey to uncover the truth about her history. The story is told with humor and no-holds-barred honesty about the complexity of having four parents, becoming a mother, and learning to navigate it all. A discussion with the filmmaker will follow the film. Somebody’s Daughter is a film based on Zara Phillip’s book of the same title.

This event is presented in partnership with Adoption Knowledge Affiliates and Adoptive and Foster Family Coalition of New York.

Adoption is usually framed through the lens of the adoptive family, but what about the birth mother, the one who makes the decision to relinquish her baby?
