Moms Without Capes Discover Practical Solutions for Reclaiming your Sense of Self Beyond Motherhood: www.themwcpodcast.com

I am a licensed therapist, a life and wellness coach, and a mom of 6 who knows first hand how busy motherhood can be! I put myself last for years and it left me feeling depressed, burned out, and like I was failing as a mom. Using my own experience, education, and expertise, I now coach other moms who are struggling with Super-Mom Syndrome to learn how to put themselves on their own to-do list and fall in love with the woman underneath!

I'm excited to introduce Kristen Engebretson, a counseling intern currently completing her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Kristen brings a calm, compassionate presence and is deeply committed to creating a safe, non-judgmental space where clients feel heard, supported, and empowered.

Kristen takes a person-centered approach and integrates mindfulness, CBT, DBT, and Individual Psychology techniques to help teens and adults navigate life’s challenges, build healthy coping skills, and create meaningful change.

She believes healing happens best through collaboration — working alongside clients to foster growth, resilience, and emotional well-being.

Kristen works under my direct supervision and offers low-cost counseling on a sliding fee scale ($50 per session), making therapy more accessible for children, teenagers, young adults, and adults who may otherwise struggle to find affordable support.

If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or simply ready to invest in your mental health, Kristen offers a supportive place to begin. We’re so grateful to have her as part of the Moms Without Capes team and look forward to the care she’ll provide to our community.

Have you ever thought about therapy… but then talked yourself out of it?
“I’m not that bad.”
“It’s too expensive.”
“What if they judge me?”

You’re not alone — and those thoughts are exactly why I recorded this week’s podcast episode: Therapy Myths Every Mom Should Know 💛

In this episode, I break down the biggest misconceptions that keep moms from getting support and share what therapy actually looks like for real moms in the thick of life. If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or just not like yourself anymore, this one’s for you.

If it resonates, I’d love for you to comment “LISTENING” below or tag a mom who’s been thinking about therapy but hasn’t taken that first step yet.

Have you ever skipped an event because you didn’t know what to wear… or felt so overwhelmed by your closet that staying home felt easier?

That moment isn’t about clothes—it’s about confidence, identity, and decision fatigue. And it’s something so many moms experience.

In this Moms Without Capes Podcast episode, I’m talking with Lana Ashby Rowder about how style can be a simple, supportive tool—not another thing on your to-do list. We cover why moms feel lost in their closets, how body changes impact confidence, and easy ways to feel put together without spending a fortune.

🎧 Episode 257: How Moms Can Reclaim Confidence Through Style
If you’re craving fewer decisions and more “I actually feel good today” moments, this one’s for you.

If you can walk away and shower without a second thought
but she has to ask permission just to wash her hair

Y’all aren’t equal.

Because she isn’t “getting a break.”
She’s asking for coverage.
She’s asking for support.
She’s asking for what you already take.

She’s checking the room before she checks on herself.
She’s making sure everyone else is settled
before she even considers her own needs.

Meanwhile, you just go.
No questions.
No guilt.
No mental checklist.

That tells you everything.

Equality isn’t about splitting bills or sharing a last name.
It’s about shared responsibility.
It’s about both parents being able to meet their basic needs
without asking for permission first.

If one parent has to ask to exist as a human being
while the other moves freely

That’s not partnership.
That’s imbalance.

30/12/2025

If you're constantly picking up the slack, managing the household, remembering all the things, and feeling resentful because your partner just... doesn’t see it all — you might be stuck in an overfunctioning/underfunctioning dynamic.

👉 Overfunctioning is when you take on more than your share of emotional labor, responsibilities, and decision-making — not because you want to, but because you feel like you have to.

👉 Underfunctioning often happens in response — your partner may do less because you've always done more.

Over time, this creates an imbalance that can lead to burnout, frustration, and feeling like you're parenting your partner rather than partnering with them.

Counseling can help.

Together, we can unpack those patterns, explore where they started, and figure out how to create more equality and shared responsibility in your relationship. It’s not about blame — it’s about building a healthier, more sustainable dynamic that honors both of you.

🛑 You don’t have to carry it all.

🤝 You’re allowed to ask for help.

💛 You deserve partnership, not performance.

Let’s change the pattern — one small step at a time.
