Tiny buttons, big milestones 👕✨

Our friend here was working with one of our OTs on learning to button up a shirt! Occupational therapists help children build independence with everyday tasks like dressing—skills that go far beyond just getting clothes on. Buttoning a shirt, for example, relies on a variety of underlying skills including fine motor strength, bilateral coordination (using both hands together), hand-eye coordination, finger dexterity, and visual perceptual skills to line up each button just right.

Through play-based, child-led approaches, OTs break buttoning down into manageable steps while strengthening these foundational skills and building confidence along the way.

Today at PALs, we honor Autism Awareness & Acceptance Day 💙

At our clinic, we celebrate every child’s unique strengths, perspectives, and potential. Autism is not something to “fix”—it’s something to understand, support, and embrace.

We are committed to creating a world where all children feel seen, heard, and valued for exactly who they are. Through compassionate, individualized therapy, we help each child grow with confidence and joy.

Let’s move beyond awareness and into acceptance, inclusion, and advocacy—today and every day.

Today marks the beginning of Occupational Therapy Month! And we’re not telling any April Fool’s jokes when we say we have some of the very best OTs at PALs! They provide important assistance to so many of our patients, helping them develop skills for their daily “occupations” including play, self-care, and learning. They provide intervention for children to improve their functional performance, sensory processing, motor-skills, social-emotional development, and SO much more. We love each of our OTs and are so thankful to have Ms. Carolyn, Ms. Emily, and Ms. Linda on our team.

Happy Friday from PALs!

Did you know we have 3 hidden senses that play a huge role in how we move, learn, and feel?

💫 The vestibular system - helps with balance and coordination
💪 The proprioceptive system - supports body awareness and strength
🤲 The interoceptive system - helps kids understand what’s happening inside their bodies

Activities such as riding on a push car, like our friend here, aren’t just fun—they’re building these essential skills every ride! 🛴✨

Happy Friday! We wanted to take a moment and share the general differences between typical/developmentally expected disfluency and stuttering (fluency disorder). Read below to learn more about the difference!

You may want to consider a speech therapy evaluation for your child if:
- Disfluencies last longer than 6 months
– Increased frequency or severity over time
– Signs of tension, avoidance, or frustration
– Family history of stuttering

Early support in this area can make a huge difference!

Happy International Women’s Day from our team at PALs!

We feel so lucky to work as a team of women that supports and encourages one another with strength and wisdom, not only professionally, but also personally. We are proud to see our therapists lead sessions with intelligence, compassion, and flexibility — and then transfer these skills to all their other roles in life as well.

We are also fortunate to encounter many other women each day who inspire and motivate us by being a strong support system and caregivers for their children and families.

Play is the work of childhood 💛

Pretend play, like in this picture, is more than just fun — it’s purposeful. Our occupational therapists might use a child’s love for pretend play to naturally target important developmental skills like:

⭐️ Play posture – encouraging positions like tall kneeling to build core strength, balance, and stability
⭐️ Sequencing – following steps (bread → toppings → close → “serve!”) to strengthen planning and organization
⭐️ Motor coordination – reaching, grasping, and manipulating play pieces
⭐️Imaginative & social play skills – expanding creativity and interaction

When therapy is child-led, motivation stays high and learning happens organically. We follow their interests and build skills through meaningful play — because the best progress happens when kids are engaged, empowered, and having fun. ✨
