Dear Sound Pawrents,
It’s that time of year, which means it’s time for Sound’s Annual Howl-Lo-Ween Costume Contest!! Bring your Sound Hound or kitty dressed in their Halloween costume to their therapy session to participate and for Fall/Halloween pictures. The contest will run from Oct. 13th-30th and the winners will be announced on Nov. 1st!! There will be a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners voted on by our team, but we all know that each of them are winners, right? We will be posting the photos on our socials, so please follow us on Facebook and Instagram to see your baby’s photo. We get so excited to see those smiling faces dressed in their Halloween best. If you don’t participate in Halloween, that’s ok, we can still get a picture of your furbaby with the fall photo backdrop. Be sure to ask your therapist for a picture!

Prizes:
-1st Place: free underwater treadmill session
-2nd Place: free laser therapy session
-3rd Place: 50% of laser therapy session

Happy World Veterinary Day to all of my veterinarian colleagues! Being a veterinarian is a true calling. Our job can be challenging, stressful, sad, joyful, fulfilling, enlightening, and extremely rewarding, all in the same hour. It is hard work both mentally, emotionally, and physically. This is Jax, a Sound Hound extraordinaire. A couple of weeks ago, we introduced his cousin, Blue, who wasn't gonna let anybody break his stride in the underwater treadmill. Jax comes to Sound after having back surgery from a ruptured intervertebral disk that paralyzed his rear legs.

Did you know that mineralized intervertebral disks (aka IVDD) are found in most minature dachshunds by the age of 2? Did you know that dachshunds are the # 1 breed for IVDD? Dachshunds are Dr. McKnight's breed, so of course, being a rehab vet makes perfect sense! Over her years in practice, she has affectionately earned the nickname "The Ween Whisper " because she definitely speaks their language. 😃

Other common breeds for intervertebral disk disease  are French bulldogs, cocker spaniels, poodles, beagles, corgis, and a few others. French bulldogs are rapidly catching up with the dachshund as the second most common breed Dr. McKnight sees for back problems.

This little nugget is Cosette, affectionately called Cozy. She is the most perfect Pug in every way! She comes to Sound to stay fit and sound (pun intended 😁) after being diagnosed at Veterinary Orthopedics and Ophthalmology with a genetic orthopedic issue called elbow dysplasia. Now she's a youngin', but her Mom wants the best range of motion for Cozy throughout her life, so she brings her for a maintenance fitness session monthly.
