The doctors at Vision Specialists of Michigan have made pioneering discoveries into the diagnosis and treatment of Binocular Vision Dysfunction, an uncommonly recognized and poorly understood eye misalignment condition. Those who suffer from Binocular Vision Dysfunction tend to have a small amount of vertical eye misalignment, which the brain corrects by directing the eye muscles to properly reposition the eyes. However, using the eye muscles in this manner overworks them and they become strained and fatigued, causing the many symptoms of Binocular Vision Dysfunction. The doctors at Vision Specialists of Michigan have developed a very detailed and specialized Neurovisual Evaluation, which allows for the accurate diagnosis and treatment of Binocular Vision Dysfunction. Using realigning prismatic spectacle lenses, the strain and fatigue within the visual system is reduced or eliminated. Patients notice significant improvement in their symptoms during their first office visit. Improvement continues over the course of several visits as the prismatic prescription is fine-tuned and customized for the individual.

When every test comes back normal but you still don't feel normal, it's frustrating and more common than you think.
One thing that often gets overlooked: vision alignment. A standard eye exam measures clarity, not whether your eyes are working together properly. That means Binocular Vision Dysfunction can go undetected for years, even in people with perfect 20/20 vision.
BVD can show up as chronic headaches, dizziness, brain fog, anxiety, and neck pain that never seems to have a clear cause.
If you've been searching for answers, it may be worth ruling out.

Sharon's symptoms had followed her for decades. Blurred vision, difficulty walking straight, and no clear explanation despite years of searching for answers.
The cause turned out to be Binocular Vision Dysfunction, a subtle eye misalignment that standard exams don't typically test for. After being fitted with custom microprism lenses through NeuroVisual Medicine, she walked straight for the first time in her life.
Getting more active this spring and summer is a great goal, but for some people, more movement means more symptoms.
Bright light. Shifting depth. Visual motion. These are all things your eyes have to process constantly during outdoor activity and if your visual system is working harder than it should, the effort can show up as headaches, dizziness, or fatigue.
It doesn't mean you have to slow down.
It may just mean your eyes need a closer look.

After months of softer winter light, brighter spring sun can feel intense.
If you find yourself squinting more, developing headaches, or feeling dizzy in bright environments, your visual system may be working harder to adapt.
For some patients, light sensitivity is connected to subtle eye misalignment.
If brighter days feel harder than they should, it may be worth exploring why.

Bending. Reaching. Shifting your focus from near to far.
For some people, constant visual motion during activities like cleaning or organizing can trigger dizziness or imbalance.
It’s often mistaken for vertigo or simple fatigue, but sometimes it’s the visual system struggling to stay aligned.
If movement-heavy tasks consistently leave you feeling “off,” your eyes may be part of the story.

Farmers markets. Kids’ sports. Community events.
For some people, visually busy environments can feel overwhelming. Motion, shifting depth, and constant visual stimulation may trigger dizziness or anxiety.
It’s often attributed to “social anxiety,” but in some cases, the issue may be how the eyes are processing space and movement.
If you feel fine at home but “off” in crowded environments, your visual system may be working harder than it should. We’d love to see how we can help.

Since 1995 Dr. Debby Feinberg has been developing the field of NeuroVisual Medicine which is the optometric subspecialty that identifies and treats neurological / medical symptoms that originate directly or indirectly in the visual system.
Dr. Feinberg has been performing pioneering work with Binocular Vision Dysfunction (BVD), a condition where a vision misalignment (frequently subtle) creates difficulties with the two eyes working together to create a single 3-dimensional image, and difficulties with the two eyes following that image as it moves.
The symptoms caused by BVD are not usually associated with problems with the visual system, and include headache, dizziness, anxiety and panic, persistent post-concussive symptoms, gait instability and balance problems, frequent falls, neck pain, motion sickness, nausea, and reading and learning problems.
In 2004. Dr. Feinberg, along with Dr. Paul and her husband Dr. Mark Rosner (our Business Manager) established Vision Specialists of Birmingham, specifically designing the practice to accommodate the needs of the NeuroVisual Medicine patient. It is with pride that we can say we are one of the longest practicing professional eye care centers in Oakland County. It is truly a family run business, and it is that family spirit that will help us serve our friends and community for many years to come.
In 2011, we moved to our new facility in Bloomfield Hills and changed our name to Vision Specialists of Michigan.
