The Clegg Family is thrilled to share that Liam had a successful kidney transplant surgery from a living donor yesterday. We are so deeply indebted to Michelle who donated one of her kidneys to Liam. We had never meet her before she volunteered to be a donor. The selflessness and love she showed to a total stranger speaks volumes about her as a person. We were able to meet Michelle prior to her surgery and will continue to follow up with her afterwards. We are eternally grateful.

We are grateful for Liam's medical teams. There were many doctors, PAs, nurses and staff who were involved. Special thanks to Dr. Ghadeer Hannoudi at Michigan Kidney Consultants and Dr. Anita Patel at the Henry Ford Transplant Institute who have gone above and beyond the call of duty.

Michelle came to us directly from our page. This shows the power of social media. Thank you to everyone who shared our Facebook and Instagram posts. We are filled with gratitude and could not have reached this point without you all.

Thank you to everyone that volunteered, filled out paperwork and/or got tested to help Liam as a potential donor. We were shocked at the number of you who came forward. The Henry Ford Transplant Institute won't tell us who and exactly how many but we know it was over 150, mostly total strangers. With people like you the world is a better place.

We've been told some of you filled out the donor questionaire and Henry Ford never contacted you. We are not privy to any information about any potential donor from Henry Ford due to privacy laws. Henry Ford tells us they were overwhelmed with the number of potential donors, an extreme rarity, and don't have a system in place to process and contact everyone. Thank you for understanding this situation is beyond our control.

We will keep this page updated with Liam's progress as he recovers and begins life again with his new kidney. Feel free to share the good news. Thanks again for everything thus far. We are glad you are part of Liam's journey.

Liam is continuing peritoneal dialysis at home at night although it's causing him sharp abdominal pain and sleeplessness as it cycles. He stays exhausted much of the day as a result. He's really being a trooper throughout all of this. The doctors want him on this type of dialysis instead of hemodialysis because there is less of a chance of infection. Please keep him in mind.

Liam is back from the hospital and enjoying some pancakes with maple syrup. Hopefully, his new PD catheter will work better this time. Still looking for a living donor match.

Liam is admitted back into the hospital. His peritoneal dialysis catheter in his abdomen isn't working. They are going to surgically move it. He also is getting a catheter installed in his neck, hopefully temporarily, so he can do hemodialysis while they test the PD catheter. Liam is being put through the ringer with all of this. He's stoically handling it. Please keep him in mind.

Yet another trip to the hospital. Today included a visit to immunology for a vaccine, a stop at the lab for a blood draw/testing and then a consult with the hematologist. Please keep Liam in mind. He's hanging in there.

Great article on kidney donation

Only about 300 to 400 people a year give a kidney to someone they never met. It's an act of generosity so unusual, a neuroscientist studies the people who do this.

Liam has had a minor setback with his health relative to eventually getting a transplant. We are hoping this is only a blip on the radar in the grand scheme of things. Please keep him in mind. Thank you.

Liam is on his last day of periodontal dialysis training. Hopefully, he will be able to dialyze at home at night while he sleeps. This would be a lot better than visiting the dialysis center 3x per week at 4 hours per time he does now.
