We’re delighted to welcome Heidi Brown to our teaching community and to share this beautiful offering of Prenatal Yoga in The Nest and in Bloomington.

Heidi is a passionate yoga instructor dedicated to creating mindful, inclusive spaces where students can move with awareness and compassion. With training in Hatha, Vinyasa, and Prenatal Yoga, her teaching emphasizes alignment, body awareness, and self-care, supporting students in finding balance and inner peace through breath and movement.

Prenatal Yoga is designed specifically for pregnant women, offering dedicated time to tune in to your changing body. Classes include mindful breathing techniques and guided movement to build strength and flexibility, with the support of props such as blocks, bolsters, and straps to ease common discomforts of pregnancy. This practice also supports preparation for labor and birth while creating space to connect with other expecting parents walking a similar path.

Child's pose is a beginning yoga posture, right?

Many assume that this pose is for beginners, and while this shape is accessible to a broader range of people, it is still inaccessible for many. It requires mobility in the ankles, the knees, and the hips, as well as flexibility along the spine and in the hips.

This pose can be made much more comfortable by:
1. For the hips, you can place a bolster under the chest and head.
2. For the ankles, roll a blanket or towel under the ankle.
3. For the knees, place a bolster or blanket behind the knee as you lean the hips back to help reduce compression.

These are just a few of the common modifications needed for beginners to access this posture comfortably. At NHYS we've got you covered with knowledgeable teachers who can help you use our variety of props to find the most comfortable variation of the postures for your body.

🪷 300-Hour Teacher Training

This first module marks the beginning of our year-long service project within the 300TT, our Evidence Informed Seva Yoga Project. The EISYP is an offering rooted in seva, or selfless service. At Nourishing Heart Yoga, we believe yoga is not only a personal practice, but a collective or relational practice: a way to show up for those who are underserved, marginalized, or carrying more than their share of the world’s weight.

Through this project, trainees are invited to listen deeply to communities, to lived experience, and to the real needs that exist beyond the studio walls. The intention is to create offerings that are thoughtful, responsive, and grounded in care, and are informed by scientific research. Programs that honor both the heart of yoga and the dignity of the people they serve.

We are continually moved by the sincerity and commitment of these teachers as they step into service with humility, curiosity, and courage. This work unfolds slowly and intentionally over the year ahead, and it’s an honor to witness the seeds of compassion, integrity, and meaningful impact that are being planted.

Next week, Saturday Jan 24th, join Liz for the first of three meditation workshops. This first session offers a spacious, grounded introduction to seated meditation through the yogic lens of Śrī Vidyā Ta**ra and the lineage of the Himalayan Masters. Together, we’ll explore what a meditative seat truly is beyond a single posture and why finding the right seat matters for steadiness, ease, and clarity of mind.

Participants will be guided through a variety of access points and seated variations, learning how to adapt the practice to their own body, energy, and lived experience. Props, modifications, and thoughtful instruction will support a sustainable approach to sitting, making this session especially supportive for beginners while still offering depth for those with an existing meditation practice. This is an invitation to meet stillness with curiosity, comfort, and care.

A quick heads-up as we all get acclimated to our beautiful new space!

When you check the schedule, please note the room listing:
• Main / Sky = enter through the front door
• Side / Nest = use the Nest entrance on the west side of the building

If you’ve arrived to a locked door, this is likely the reason. Thank you so much for your patience as we settle into the rhythm of these amazing new classes in The Nest. We’re so grateful for your flexibility and enthusiasm.

We are around the midway point of Yoga Bingo, and we just want to pause and say how grateful we are for this community. You all are rocking our worlds with your enthusiasm and fun spirit, your dedication and presence.

Whether you’ve filled in a few squares, are closing in on a line, or are simply using Bingo as a gentle nudge to try something new, this practice isn’t about perfection. It’s about showing up, exploring curiosity, and letting yoga meet you where you are.

There’s still plenty of time to:
✔ try a new class
✔ visit a teacher you haven’t practiced with yet
✔ come with a friend
✔ check off something unexpected
✔ or simply keep moving at your own pace

Every square represents presence. Every visit matters. And every way you participate is enough.

Keep going, keep playing, and most of all, keep practicing together. ✨

“The study of asana is not about mastering posture.
It’s about using posture to understand and transform yourself.”
— B. K. S. Iyengar

Iyengar Yoga is a methodical, thoughtful approach to practice that emphasizes alignment, precision, and awareness. Through the skillful use of props like blocks, straps, blankets, and chairs, postures become accessible, sustainable, and deeply informative, allowing students to explore how they are in a pose, not just what the pose looks like.

Rather than flowing quickly, poses are held with intention, creating space to observe sensation, breath, effort, and ease. This makes Iyengar Yoga both physically therapeutic and inwardly transformative, supporting strength, stability, clarity, and self awareness.

We’re grateful to offer Iyengar-inspired classes at Nourishing Heart Yoga:
🕛 Wednesdays at 12:00pm Iyengar with Steph DeBoer
🕛 Wednesdays at 7:00pm Yoga Aligned with Bill Holmes
🕚 Saturdays at 11:45am Iyengar with Steph DeBoer

These classes are open to all levels and especially supportive for those who appreciate clear instruction, mindful pacing, and a practice rooted in curiosity and self-understanding. Come explore posture as a pathway to presence.

What a joyful, heart-opening evening. Thank you to everyone who came out to raise your voices, clap your hands, and sing together in reverie…friends, families, and little ones included. It truly felt like a family affair, and we’re so grateful for the warmth and presence each of you brought. Deep thanks to the musicians who held the space so beautifully and generously, guiding us with devotion, skill, and play.

For those who are curious: kirtan is a call-and-response form of devotional chanting rooted in the bhakti tradition of yoga. Through simple melodies and repeated mantras, we quiet the thinking mind and open the heart, allowing joy, connection, and a sense of togetherness to arise naturally. No experience is needed; you simply listen, sing along if you wish, and let the sound carry you.

If you missed this one or are already longing for more, our next community kirtan will be Friday, March 6th. We’d love to sing with you. 🎶✨

An evening of reverence, beauty, and intention. Our opening puja ceremony marked the beginning of this year-long 300 hour advanced yoga training journey with an exquisite altar, shared prayers, and a collective commitment to walk slowly and consciously together.

We are deeply moved by the dedication of these teachers who choose to deepen their practice not for achievement, but for purpose, service, and integrity. This path is a marathon, not a sprint, and this group is meeting it with open hearts, steady resolve, and humility.

So honored to witness the beginning of this unfolding. May the year ahead be guided by devotion, discipline, and care for the whole.

The quieter, colder months can bring things to the surface. Memories, emotions, habits, longings. If you’re walking a recovery path, this season can feel especially tender. We want you to know: you don’t have to hold it all by yourself.

Yoga for 12 Step Recovery is a gentle, supportive practice created for people in recovery. Offering space to breathe, move, reflect, and reconnect in a way that honors both the body and the journey of sobriety. This is not about fixing or forcing. It’s about showing up, just as you are, and being met with compassion.

Here, movement is simple and accessible. Language is trauma-aware and respectful. Community is quiet but powerful. Together, we practice presence, grounding, and trust one breath at a time.

If this season feels heavy, or if you’re simply longing for a space where you can exhale and feel understood, you are welcome here.

🌊 Move with the tides. Rest in the deep. 🌊

Join us for Flow & Stillness, a nourishing workshop that weaves together the embodied freedom of JourneyDance® with the restorative resonance of a sound bath. An invitation to move, release, and then be deeply held.

We’ll begin by awakening the body through fluid, intuitive movement exploring waves of motion, inner rhythms, and joyful expression. There’s no choreography and no performance, just guided movement that invites presence, freedom, and connection. As the physical flow softens, we’ll transition into stillness. You’ll be guided to lie down and receive a soothing sound bath using crystal singing bowls, chimes, and drums, supporting emotional renewal, nervous system reset, and gentle integration.

Whether you’re navigating emotional tides or simply longing for space to breathe and reconnect, this experience is here to support you, just as you are.

✨ What to bring: Yoga mat, water bottle, eye pillow (optional)
✨ What to wear: Comfortable layers that allow full movement and warmth during rest
✨ What’s provided: Blankets, bolsters, and props for supported stillness
✨ No experience needed. Come ready to move, breathe, and receive

Facilitated by Tessa Bent

Certified in 2024, Tessa offers this practice as a welcoming, inclusive space to move freely, process emotion, and reconnect with the body. She is also deepening her sound healing studies through the Sound Healing Academy.

Come move with the tides and rest in what’s ready to be restored.
