One of my pups is highly sensitive to loud noises, fireworks, gun shots, loud cars, etc. Living in the country poses a greater opportunity for him to have a bit more anxiety as these sounds can be rather constant. With New Year's on the horizon I wanted to share some whys and how tos.

WHY:When considering the effects of fireworks on dogs, it is critical to consider canine hearing sensitivity and range. Dogs detect sounds ranging from 40 to 45,000 Hz across eight or more octaves, whereas the human ear detects only sounds ranging from 64 to 20,000 Hz across less than six octaves. Fireworks produce noise levels of up to 190 decibels, far exceeding even the 140 decibel pain threshold for adults and the even lower 120 decibel threshold for babies. Therefore, considering that the pain threshold for dogs is around 50 decibels, dogs are likely to perceive nearby fireworks at exponentially more painful and distressing decibel levels.

Fireworks can cause severe stress in dogs due to their sensitive hearing, inability to predict/control the startling stimuli, and the resulting fight-or-flight physiological responses. Reactions range from mild anxiety to medical complications such as panic attacks, arrhythmias, or even sudden death.

How do we help them?
Providing a safe space
Positive distractions
Training and counterconditioning
Essential oils, Frequency Therapy, Thunder blanket, Melatonin or CBD for dogs
No matter what you choose, choose what works for your dog. Also, start earlier in the day, before all the noise and such. On the ranch I use specific tools. I will use my AO Scanner to balance the energy centers and then run anxiety calming frequencies for Toby. We let him go where he feels most comfortable. No matter what, I tell him it’s all okay, he will be okay.
Keep your pups safe this year. Be mindful of all the noises and no matter what, please don’t take then to see the fireworks.. they aren’t missing out and you are doing them more harm than good.. Be safe.

Today is National Day of the horse. It should be everyday 😊. Our pasture always feels a bit empty since loosing the big boy but I do have these two and they make me smile for sure. Horses touch us in a way no other animal does. Majestic and powerful yet they can be terrified by a plastic bag. 😆.

We don’t get a lot of very cold weather here in Texas but we do get some. Since I usually post about the hot weather and its effects on animals especially on puppy paws I thought I would post about cold temps. I know some of you live where the weather gets a tab but chilly 🥶 and probably already know what’s too cold… personally when it gets into the feels like below 0.. that’s too cold for me. Heres some winter temp info 👇
Stay warm and safe this winter ❤️

🐾 Is the ground too cold for my dog?

Use the 5-second hand test:
Place the back of your bare hand on the ground.
• Can’t hold it for 5 seconds? → Too cold for your dog’s paws

Watch for warning signs:
• Lifting or holding up paws
• Limping or refusing to walk
• Shivering or whining
• Excessive paw licking afterward

Higher-risk dogs: small, short-haired, puppies, seniors, arthritic, recently shaved.

Quick temp guide:
• Above 32°F (0°C): usually okay briefly
• 20–32°F: limit time, monitor paws
• Below 20°F: risk of frostbite—avoid ground contact

Protect paws: booties, paw balm, shorter walks, rinse off salt/ice melt.

I love fresh decor for the holidays.. pumpkins and gourds for thanksgiving and pine, poinsettias and maybe some mistletoe for Christmas HOWEVER did you know poinsettias and mistletoe are deadly to cats and dogs. Soooo if you’re getting that sweet puppy or kitty for a sweet Christmas gift, think about tossing those beautiful yet deadly plants.

This dog..🤦🏼‍♀️😆. It seems she decided to “plant” her self in the garden beds.
She’s 12 and has difficulty getting up and moves a little slow… unless she wasn’t something, like to dig in nice soft manure. Apparently jumping into a 3ft tall raised bed is a cinch.

When your sweet pups previous vitals look like Christmas.. just optimize. 😉

**Public Service Announcement**

Sharing some safety tips, which are good reminders for this time of year however it made me think about a trend I’ve been seeing on social media. Sooo let’s chat about this shall we 😊

I’ve seen lots reels of people scaring their pets, using some kind of mask or pop up character, or other such things and while it seems humorous it’s really not it’s actually cruel.
When an animal gets scared they will react in one of 3 ways, Fight, Flight or Freeze. The severity of the action is dependent on their breed, past experience and the intensity of what’s scaring them. Eventually they will cam down and go back to being their sweet self BUT did you read “past experience” influences their behavior?? Did you know that emotional memories can last a lifetime for dogs and fear based ones can change their personalities, making them fearful, anxious or even aggressive especially when they encounter the thing that caused the trauma.

Signs Trauma Is Still Affecting a Dog

• Startles easily or overreacts to small changes
• Avoids certain people, places, or sounds
• Overly submissive or “shuts down” under stress
• Has nightmares, trembling, or sudden aggression

If your dog exhibits any of the above signs when they encounter specific things then look a little deeper and see just how this started.
Here’s the thing, these memories for dogs, don’t usually just go away. Dogs can’t talk it out and fear is not irrational to them.
2 suggestions.. don’t intentionally scare your dog and if sweet Fido is having some trauma or anxiety, I’ve got tools and tips for you to help them.

Stay safe and keep those pups safe too.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

My absolute least favorite, made up holiday is right around the corner. I’m not gonna get on my soapbox about why BUT..Did you know that this holiday kills the most wildlife than any other day. Any idea what kills them… candy. The dropped ones, the ones left in bowls on porches, thrown around in parking lots.. all of it. Raccoons, possums, squirrels, rabbits, feral cats etc will all eat this and it can and will kill them. So if you participate in this holiday and you see candy on the ground, please pick it up and dispose of it. All the critters will thank you for it 😊

Last night was rough for Toby. First time that our next door neighbors shot off fireworks so the booms were VERY loud. The balancing harmonics helping my Toby deal with the noise. The harmonics help his body and brain to relax. Plus the imbedded frequencies help him focus on the sound and not the loud booms outside.

Fourth of July celebrations vary across this great land. When I lived in California, fireworks were illegal so you didn’t have the neighbors shooting off loud small bombs the week before and through the actual holiday. To see fireworks you had to go to a venue. We went to the high school , which was great. They did a big show with music and fun stuff. When we moved to Texas, it was TOTALLY different. First off, it’s hot and humid so sitting outside, 😬, and there are fireworks stands on every corner so people can get all they need to celebrate. Don’t get me wrong, I love fireworks especially the professionally done ones but it takes on a whole other level when you have animals.

Did you know that more pets go missing on July 4 than any other time of the year?
Did you also know that it’s not just dogs that have fireworks fear?
Cats, birds, horses, goats, cows.. I think you see where this is going.
I have a dog that struggles with the loud noises.. gun shots, thunder and fireworks. It has something to do with the frequency and reverberations. I’ve learned over the years that helping Toby takes more than one thing.

In order to help him I start out a day or two before the big festivities
Utilizing my AO Scanner, I run a specific playlist for him and I make sure to run his vitals several times a day. This ensure his body is balanced and can accept the additional balancing frequencies.

I will diffuse calming oils, Peace and calming, lavender, stress away and valor.

Stroking with intention especially along the sides of his neck. This helps to stimulate the vagus nerve

If you have a thunder shirt, use it

Ensuring a safe space for your pet is great

Playing some kind of music to off set the loud noise is helpful.. the vitals report comes with balancing harmonics so I can play those too 😊

Of all the tools, the scanner is my favorite.. why? Because I can run the playlist for all the critters either individually or as a group. Whether or not they have noise issues, it certainly won’t hurt them.

Keep your pets safe this July 4th.
