The Blue Springs fun fest is in full swing! The office is still open on Sunday but parking *might* get tough if festival goers attempt to park in our lot. Consider coming a few minutes early to give yourself plenty of time and feel free to text me if you want to switch to virtual. Happy festival season!πŸ‚πŸ

Ever felt like your brain is in a never-ending scroll marathon of bad news? You're not alone! It turns out our brains might be wired for this "doom scrolling" habit.

If you're curious (and brave enough) to understand the neuroscience behind why we just can't look away, check out this New York Times article. Maybe it'll give us some answers... or at least a good laugh about our collective digital addiction!

Making decisions that align long-term goals and short-term rewards is challenging, but it can lead to better choices and richer lives.

Just finished bell hooks' "All About Love: New Visions"! ❀️ This book is a profound exploration of what it truly means to love, and it challenged so many of our societies preconceived notions.

A few things that particularly resonated with me:
* Men's Mental Health & Patriarchy: hooks bravely tackles how patriarchal norms harm men's emotional well-being and their capacity for genuine connection and attachment. It's a powerful call to dismantle these harmful structures for everyone's sake.
* Childhood & Adult Love: The way we treat children profoundly shapes their ability to love as adults. This insight hit hard and made me reflect deeply on how we nurture empathy and connection from a young age.

Here are some impactful quotes that are sticking with me:
* "Often we refuse to love because we are afraid. Love demands a letting go."
* "Dominator culture has tried to keep us all afraid, to make us choose safety over risk, sameness over diversity. But in the act of loving, we are called to give up our need for control."
* "The wounded child within many adults is a major impediment to their capacity to love."

If you're looking to deepen your understanding of love, connection, and societal impact, I highly recommend "All About Love." It's a game-changer!

I spent last Thursday, Friday and Saturday working with the amazing Dr Vagdevi Meunier to complete my level 3 Gottman training in Austin TX.

It was so beautiful practicing strategies and learning from the best. It was equal parts exciting and humbling learning from and with my cohort β™‘

πŸŽ‰ Mental Health Awareness Month πŸŽ‰

Our mental and physical health are entwined. If your mental health suffers, your body will suffer. I get lots of referrals from gastroenterology clinics for this very reason. If your physical health suffers, your mental health will suffer.

Think about some ways you can be conscientious toward both this month β™‘

I like to make sure I'm moving my body in a helpful way - walking, lifting, and yoga stretching.

I like to consider my nutrition - taking my daily vitamins, being balanced with my caffeine addic- I mean, intake 🫣, and drinking a lot of water.

I like to focus on my breathing, considering my 5 senses as I walk, eat, and shower.
