Very long post….This is a story of God’s faithfulness and goodness yet again! About a year ago when I went into our attic, I stumbled once I was standing up inside and fell back through the opening to the attic. I landed on the concrete of our garage resulting in ONLY a few stitches, bad bruising on my hips, and a shattered left elbow. There is no other explanation other than God protected me from much more serious injury.
The emergency surgery hardware and 1st round of PT on my elbow left me with very limited range of motion. I had a 2nd surgery by Dr. Matthew Smith’s team with a complete radial head replacement in early Summer. I went through 2 intense rounds of OT at Marshall Therapy and Sports Rehab in the summer and early fall and made great progress considering all the trauma to my entire arm.
Since last October I have been faithfully exercising my left arm every morning and night but felt like my range of motion was not what I wanted it to be. My wonderful chiropractor Dr. Diana Hudgins Brown, who worked wonders on my misaligned shoulders, neck, back, and hips after my fall, suggested infrared light treatment on my arm which greatly decreased the swelling and inflammation. In addition, Amanda Bowers, my awesome massage therapist has helped me tremendously over the past year.
Then, Jason Boatfield, opened The Point, a new physical therapy office specializing in dry needling. I’ve known his family for a very long time and taught 2 of his precious children. In my determination to seek out any avenue that could improve my pain and range of motion, I reached out to him to see if he could treat me. Currently I have gone for a total of 5 treatments and my progress increases each time. Just yesterday after treatment and only a few stretches, my arm straighten completely (0 degrees) and then bent to reach behind my head with no pain (almost 130 degrees). To put this in perspective, prior to my 2nd surgery my arm could not bend more than 90 degrees, and I could not touch my face. Jason’s expertise in dry needle therapy along with daily exercises has greatly reduced my pain, and I have seen an increase in my range of motion. If you suffer with chronic or acute pain, I highly recommend you reach out to Jason to see if he can help you, too.
So, I post all this to first and foremost praise God for the people he has used to help me through this past year. I know God’s timing is always perfect and His plans are always better than mine. Also, I encourage you to seek all kinds of treatment for your health. We have so many knowledgeable medical professionals and wonderful resources right here around us!!
