The Power of Each Other

The Power of Each Other Dr. Burlingame-Lee, Ph.D., provides counseling, personal and life coaching, seminars and workshops a What is "The Power of Each Other"? Collins, CO.

The power of each other is supporting one another, in sorrow and joy. The power of each other is spreading kindness, especially in a world torn by strife, polarizations, and war. It's sharing and caring with and for each other. It's the creative urge we all have, and the urge to reach our highest goals and be the best we can be - individually AND together. The power of each other is not letting is

sues, politics, religions, social status, or anything else that points out differences divide us from our common goal: creating peace and unity. The power of each other is within us, around us, and flows through us - WE are the power of each other. I formerly ran a counseling and wellness practice in Ft. I moved to Boise, ID in 2018, and I work with those wanting to overcome despair, heartbreak, anxiety, isolation, and marginalization who have also sustained neurological injury or are dealing with adjustment to neurological conditions. I practice what I call an "empowerment worldview." I work to help facilitate healing both within ourselves and in our world, create joy, build creativity, enhance self-esteem, and support growth. We are all in this together, and I'd like to invite you to share your stories, your dreams, and your hopes. Life is hard enough, especially in these tough times - let's share with each other what helps us. What lifts your spirits, and inspires hope in you? What are you doing, or what do you know others are doing? Connect and help us grow!

No one wants a "new normal"! We want our old normal back, but no matter how much we want it, we still need to come to terms with "new normal."

New normal is not what anyone wants and here we are. How can radical acceptance help us come to terms with new normal?

The first draft of "Love the Questions: Creating a Life You Love through Journaling and Art" is finished! I'm putting together a book proposal and hope to have it published soon! If you want to see samples of journal prompts (one from each chapter), you can find them here: http://www.drlaurablee.com/love-the-questions-journal-prompts.html

The final book also has the outline and materials needed to run the Creative Explorations group; this section may be created as a separate publication depending on the outcome for "Love the Questions". Enjoy!!

It's been a long time! I'm thrilled to be back with this announcement:

I just finished the self-exploration workbook I've been working on for the last 5 years, "Creative Explorations of the Self," using art activities to explore aspects of our identities, homes, and life journey. I think I need a better title, but the full first draft is done!! Now to finish the journaling book!

The next step with this project: See if I can find people willing to create a project based on one of the chapters, and then send me a good photo I can use to illustrate it! (All with credit and permission, of course!)

Given how stressed out we are with COVID-19, I just posted audio files for stress management recordings I've made for my patients to my web page. You can find them under the "Resources" section, and one is a progressive muscle relaxation exercise and the other is a guided meditation for safety and peace. You can do them separately or together, but if you do them together, do the progressive muscle relaxation exercise first and then the guided meditation, because the PMR exercise involves tensing and releasing muscles and the guided meditation is all about relaxing (and you don't want to go from relaxed to tense/relax! :) ).

We have a unique opportunity at this time, with this virus spreading. We have the chance to show love and caring for our neighbors - all of them, grow as community, and be the change we've been saying we want to see. This pandemic doesn't have to mean total tragedy, because we can pull together with the common goal of sharing our resources, our time, our energy, and our humanity. What can or are you doing to help? What ideas do you have?

Another great article about being in a relationship with a trauma survivor:

Survivors of childhood trauma deserve all the peace and security that a loving relationship can provide. But a history of abuse or neglect can make trusting another person feel terrifying. Trying to form an intimate relationship may lead to frightening missteps and confusion. How can we better under...

Great article!

Take it from psychologist and author Gretchen L. Schmelzer: in healing from trauma, a step backwards can actually be a sign of progress.

We have talked a lot about how childhood trauma impacts emotional regulation and can leave us oscillating between anger and numbness (hyper- and hypo-arousal).
