There are some people who teach caregiving from textbooks — and then there are those who teach it from lived experience. In this heartfelt conversation, with our recent "Death over Tea" community, I had the honor of sharing time with Darra Wray, Certified Senior Advisor, founder of LEARN Idaho, creator of My Care Companions, My Data Diary+ and co-author of "Winning Strategies for Family Caregiving: Lessons from Family Game Night.
Together, we explored the beautiful and complicated realities of caregiving — the exhaustion, the love, the sacrifice, and the unexpected gifts that can emerge in the hardest seasons of life. Darra shares both her professional wisdom and deeply personal experiences caring for loved ones, reminding us that caregiving is often the hardest job in the world… and also one of the most meaningful. In recognition of National Healthcare Decisions Day, Darra speaks also the importance of advance care planning and how that can be the greatest gift to your loved ones.
At the heart of our conversation was the idea of learning to see the world through “rose-colored glasses” — not by ignoring hardship, but by choosing to notice moments of connection, humor, gratitude, and humanity even in difficult times. A gentle reminder that while caregiving can change us, it can also soften us, deepen us, and teach us what truly matters.
Thank you Darra Wray for sharing your wisdom and heart with our community. ❤️
