Compassionate Caregiving - Honoring Humanity through end of life

This FREE workshop is for everyone because death touches us all and planning can help you feel empowered and inspired to live life fully.

Who is this workshop for?
Everyone! Because death touches us all at some point in our lives.

Why are we offering this workshop?
End-of-life can be a difficult and often avoided topic. But there are practical tools that you can put in place to help prepare and by doing so, you will feel more empowered and inspired to live life more fully.

What to expect:
You will learn the importance of the three phases of End-of-Life and what interventions can be used in each phase to ensure the highest quality of life for your loved ones. Our expert guest speaker will share what choices are needed before the last phase of life, and new progressive options for life celebrations. End-of-Life can be the natural, scared experience it was meant to be with the right education, resources and support.

As a death doula, I often sit with families after a terminal diagnosis.
The room feels different.
The words feel heavy and it can be hard to think clearly.

This is where gentle preparation matters.
Clarity does not take away the heartbreak.
It can bring a measure of peace.
It can return a sense of agency in a moment that feels powerless.

Write your questions down.
Bring someone with you.
Take notes.
Ask the doctor to slow down or repeat things.
When we understand what is coming, we are better able to choose how we want to walk through it.

Sometimes the greatest act of self-love is simply asking, “Help me understand.”

Recently, I had the honor of speaking at an event at JUMP Boise PechaKucha Night: Labor of Love.

I shared the story of my journey to becoming a death doula — a path I never set out to walk, but one that unfolded gently through love and loss.

So much of that journey carries my dad’s fingerprints.
He didn’t sit me down and teach me about death. He taught me about presence. About showing up. About steady hands and quiet strength. He taught me that love doesn’t rush away when things get hard — it leans in.

When his health began to change, I didn’t know I was stepping into training for the sacred work I now do. I only knew I wanted to sit close. To pay attention. To honor the moments that felt both fragile and sacred.

Becoming a death doula wasn’t about choosing a career. It was about recognizing a calling that had been forming for years — in hospital rooms, in hard conversations, in long pauses filled with unspoken understanding.

Speaking at Labor of Love felt full circle. It felt like honoring not just my work, but the man who helped shape the heart behind it.

This work is sacred to me. Not because it is about dying — but because it is about loving and living well, all the way to the end.
And Dad, in so many ways, was my first teacher. 🤍

In a world that measures worth by productivity and praise, it can be easy to forget this quiet truth: your value was never meant to be earned.

You were worthy before the promotion.
Before the applause.
Before the healing.
Before the striving.

You are worthy in the middle of the mess.
In the becoming.
In the resting.
In the not-knowing.

May you breathe that in today.
May you soften your grip on proving.
May you remember that your existence alone is a gift.
You are valuable — not because of what you do —
but because you are here. đź’›

Grief is something we all encounter, yet few of us are taught how to sit with it, talk about it, or understand it.

Death Over Tea creates space for honest conversation around grief, loss, love, and the emotions that surface along the way. This gathering is gentle, grounded, and open to anyone seeking connection, reflection, or deeper understanding.

Our February conversation is inspired by "Grief Is a Sneaky Bitch" by Lisa Kefauver, MSW, founder of Reimagining Grief, a social worker, grief activist, and widow who challenges the myths that tell us grief should be tidy, timed, or something to “move on” from. Her work invites compassion, truth, and permission to grieve in real ways.
Join us Friday, February 27 at 7:00 PM for our hybrid event, both Streaming online live and in person at JUMP (Jack’s Urban Meeting Place)

Compassion is recognizing that everyone is carrying something you can’t see. Stress. Grief. Fear. Doubt. Even the strongest people fight quiet battles.

It costs nothing to be kind — but it can mean everything to someone else.

A little compassion can change the tone of a conversation, a relationship, even a life.
