This is a wonderful photo. Not from a photographic point but from the connections of wild horses. This is four-year-old Cashly nursing from her Momma Poppy while her foal, little Angel nurses on her. Not unusual to see in the wild. I just darted little Cashly with a primer vaccine of birth control, She had disappeared in the hills of the Pine Nut Mountains for so many months that her primer vaccine of birth control lost its effectiveness. She got pregnant and gave birth to little Angel. Cashly is feeling a little insecure after being hit with a new primer vaccine dart. It isn't really painful. No more than a bee string, but made her feel a little uncomfortable. So when she is uncomfortable she goes to the one source of comfort she has known all her life.... Momma. She know longer needs nutrition, she needs comfort and her c**t senses her emotion and also comes to nurse. It is typical wild horse behavior. For those of us that frequent the range and observe wild horse behavior, we find it fascinating. It is fascinating.

We can do and feel better together…

In a zoo in Ohio, a female gorilla was born and raised in captivity, got pregnant and had a baby gorilla. On the day she had her baby, she didn't know what to do. She had never seen another gorilla nurse, and she had no concept of breastfeeding. Sadly, the baby gorilla died.

When she became pregnant again the gorilla's keeper called La Leche League and volunteer nursing mums went to the zoo to nurse their babies in front of the pregnant gorilla. At first the gorilla ignored them, but as her delivery date grew closer she became very interested. When the baby gorilla was born the mother gorilla forgot all that she'd learned and started to freak out. The keeper quickly called the La Leche League and another volunteer rushed over and slowly showed the momma gorilla what to do. The gorilla watched, mimicking the moves step by step until, with a nearly audible sigh of relief, the gorilla looked down at her chest and saw her baby feeding happily for the first time.

We are no different - breastfeeding is a skill, and sometimes it just helps to watch another mom breastfeed. Thank you to LLLN.I. for this post.

Rebecca Powell is a human milk immunologist and she’s also a researcher at New York City’s Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
✺
We know that breastmilk holds the key to many things and carries antibodies but human milk is not well researched.
✺
Rebecca Powell is conducting a study on human milk to see if it holds COVID-19 protection for children and even adults.
✺
This was never done with SARS, MERS or even the flu!
✺
She has put out a call for human milk samples and is willing to pay $5 per ounce of milk from each healthy, lactating person in New York City, although she will also take samples, through the mail, from people outside of New York City, as long as they have a confirmed or suspected case of COVID-19, or if they’re at high risk for exposure.
✺
She is hoping to discover antibodies to help combat COVID-19!

If you’d like to help her research by volunteering your milk, please email her at covid19humanmilkstudy@gmail.com

Science catching up with Mamas/Papas/parents

β€œKissing your baby changes your breast milk. Did you know that the undeniable urge to cover your baby in kisses serves a biological purpose? When a mother kisses her baby, she samples the pathogens on baby’s face, which then travel to mom’s lymphatic system. Mom’s body then creates antibodies to fight those pathogens, which baby receives through breast milk. What?! Amazing, right?”

The study adds a new dimension to our understanding of how a mother can influence our health, according to its author.
