I did it! I’m officially a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator. I can’t even believe it. I got my results today. I worked so hard to pass on the first try. Alhamdolillah. All blessings and thanks to Allah.

Supporting women through labor is not for the weak of heart. Tender hearts, yes, but not weak. You watch women in their most vulnerable states, doing the most difficult things. How you offer support will for sure change as the minutes go by; what’s okay at one point may become intolerable the next, and what you discussed as a “never” during prenatal meetings may actually end up being what mom asks for, and needs, when the heat rises. It’s a fascinating experience of human interaction; so humbling, and brings me so much joy and gratitude to be able to do this for my community every day.

I wrote this blog post almost THREE years ago, not knowing what I know today, and not knowing how the world would turn out regarding the attachment that people have formed inside their homes, whether willingly or unwillingly. The events of the past year threw a curve ball at so many of us; plans, ideas, jobs, family events, milestones, all took a hit. But one thing emerged for sure, the importance of family, the safety and security of home, and finding the beauty in small things. I still believe what I wrote three years ago. My number one place to shoot a family will ALWAYS be their home.
