Everyday is a day to make a difference in Epilepsy Awareness 💜🤦🏽‍♀️

I had my first seizure on the rug while my teacher was reading a book on Valentine's Day in 5th grade. I was lucky enough to find a light of hope at a wonderful hospital in Miami, FL. My incredible neurologist and amazing neurosurgeon changed my life through brain surgery in 2016. I am now 24 and have not had an absence seizure in more than five years. Many people do not realize that having a physical medical condition can impact mental health too, like it did for me. I overcame these challenges by advocating for more mental health awareness. People with epilepsy may feel lonely because of not being able to participate in activities or pursue the career they hope to. I missed a large amount of school due to epilepsy, which affected my education significantly, but I am happy to say I am now a graduate student in occupational therapy. As an occupational therapist, I plan to advocate for disability awareness.
