Do you know what time it is? It’s time to dust off that big ol’ goal of yours and start again. 🌅

You know that thing you’ve been working on - that thing you just haven’t cracked yet? Maybe it’s a health goal, or a work goal, or a fill-in-the-blank goal.

Does the uncertainty prevent you from trying? Are you possibly judging yourself? Is it fluffing HARD??

That’s okay. The key is striking a healthy balance between accepting yourself as you are now AND working hard to reach your goal. It’s not either/or… it’s both/and.

If I had listened to my primary care doctor and stayed complacent, I never would have found out about my dermatologist. And if I had listened to my dermatologist, I never would have found out about naturopathy, toxins and holistic health.

And because didn’t give up and I kept working at it, my health has been positively TRANSFORMED.

If you’re struggling to accept yourself as you are, mindfulness & meditation could really help boost your happiness and reduce anxiety.

If you need more motivation to help you hit those goals, stick around here and I’ll give ya a gentle nudge. 😊

I wanna hear what your goals are! Shout them out below👇🏼

A friend in this very community reached out to me less than two weeks ago about her experience with high levels of mercury from eating a lot of fish and using toxic products. She was feeling unwell for a very long time, she said, and it turned out her mercury levels were through the roof.

So, when I tuned into The Daily podcast this morning and they were covering this exact topic, I knew it was time to make a post about it.

This is just another example of the fundamental truth that environmental protection is the SAME THING as protecting your own health and your access to clean, healthy food and water.

I respect the need to save jobs, but we have to find a way that is not damaging to the environment and our health. And unfortunately, burning coal (and in particular, GOB coal) releases a lot of mercury and other noxious gases into the atmosphere that negatively impact our health.

Knowledge is power, so let’s use it to make a difference. What do you say?

Don’t make the mistake of thinking your genetics can’t be influenced. They can!

All kinds of external influences alter the way your genes express themselves. Think of it as a really cool adaptive superpower you have. 🦸🏻‍♀️

Unfortunately, the way we live our lives today with the hustle, convenience foods and desk work has an overall negative impact on our health. Consider how chronic illness is skyrocketing with each younger generation.

Here are some tips to help you stay as healthy as possible and take charge of your destiny.

Comment “Got this!” if this post makes you feel empowered!

To be honest, I don’t think you need coaching.

I believe that given enough time and effort, practically anybody can learn anything.

That being said, I’ve worked on my hair loss, hormones and general health for a decade and have spent the past 18 months in intensive study. That’s a LOT of time to continue suffering and experimenting before starting to see lasting progress.

✨It wasn’t until I took my health into my own hands and stopped relying on medications and procedures that I was able to see what I was missing: whole foods, toxins, stress and daily movement.✨

If I had stumbled upon a coach who would have given me those answers right up front and guided me through the lifestyle transition, it would have been so much faster and easier!!

So no, I don’t believe you need a coach… but you might just want one anyway. Please reach out to me if you’re interested in exploring 1:1 or small group low tox coaching options.🦋

What kinds of coaches have you guys worked with in the past? Athletic coaches, tutors, music lessons or something else?

Choosing organic food is one of the best things you can do for your own health and for the planet.

Pesticides and herbicides like DDT, Altrazine and Glyphosate have been linked to birth defects, decreased fertility, hormone disruption, cancers like non-Hodgkin lymphoma and neurobehavioral disorders.

Plus, they’re made using fossil fuels and deplete topsoil biodiversity. Say no more!

Do you know how important your thyroid is?

The thyroid gland is a major part of the endocrine system and plays a role in regulating insulin, appetite, weight gain, and more. It is also especially sensitive to toxic chemicals in personal care and household products.

Especially if you are someone who has a family history of hypothyroidism, it's a good idea to start supporting your thyroid naturally now! The easiest way I've found to get started is to avoid these specific chemicals and to reduce your stress levels.

Are you struggling with any of these symptoms? xx

Are you dissatisfied with your health and just putting up with medications, side effects and symptoms because you don't know what else to do?

✨The first step to getting anywhere is deciding you’re not willing to stay where you are.

In order to see a real transformation in your life, you have to commit and prioritize your goal. You'll have to get uncomfortable, do the work, seek out experts and change things up in order to see a lasting improvement.

Keep exploring and investigating with an open mind, relentless optimism and an unwavering commitment to your health. Improving your health will be a lifelong journey. Keep after those answers!!

What's considered healthy is relative - a Lara bar is certainly healthier than a Snickers bar, but a homemade date and nut energy bar is even healthier than a Lara bar.

I'm lucky enough to work from home, I don't have any kids and even I have to buy packaged snacks sometimes, especially when I'm traveling. It's not the end of the world. I think being aware of my choice is what's important.

Awareness is the seed of change.

Can you think of any other ways to avoid packaged foods?

You might be afraid to try something new because you're unsure how it will play out. You're afraid your symptoms won't go away after all the money and effort, or that you'll try it and won't like it and it will have been a waste.

As much as we wish it, results are not guaranteed - even with all the best coaches, painstaking research and preparation, and all the money in the world. That's a tough pill to swallow, especially when you want something SO badly.

I've tried countless specialists, treatments, supplements, diets, greenwashed products and low tox products, many that just didn't work out for me. Each time it's definitely a disappointment. But, I try to remind myself that I am one step closer to my goal and I am proud of myself for taking action on what's important to me.

Understanding that the outcome is outside of your direct control can be incredibly liberating. It means that all you have to do is try and whatever happens, the results have nothing to do with you. You did all you could do and in the process you were living your values.

Aisha Tyler dropped this quote in her interview with Tim Ferriss on his podcast and I'm not sure if it originated with her, but either way she is brilliant and this sentiment really spoke to me. I hope it inspires you as much as it did me!

Is there anything you've been putting off trying because you're not sure how it will go??🙋‍♀️👇

Have you ever felt discouraged, thinking the only way to achieve your ideal figure is to either eat less or work out harder and that just sounds like the most miserable existence to you??

Yeah, me too.

For about 8 years of my 20's I struggled with my weight and had no idea how to realistically look the way I wanted. Trying to adhere to strict rules always set me up for failure or to never even get started.

I'll be honest, the biggest transformation for me came when I was furloughed from my high stress job and I finally had the time and motivation to focus on my health.

I learned that being gentle with myself and expanding my cooking repertoire was actually the most effective solution. When I started eating a lot of highly nutritious, high fiber, whole foods and moving my body daily, I was able to eat to satiation and still notice a more defined waist.

And when I started to take care of myself and focus on sleep and being more mindful, I started to love myself for prioritizing my health and accept my body even though it's not "perfect". ☺

Which of these tips are you most likely to try? Let me know in the comments!👇

PS - What do you think of this new style?? I finally accepted that I have zero talent for graphic design and grabbed a template from the masterful . Does it make you more interested in reading and sharing? (Please say yes, haha 😉)

How do you feel about beans?
Boring? Bland? Uninspiring?

I did too! But girl, you’re wrong. Beans are a superfood! And so delish and versatile.

Case in point, this amazing recipe by . I’ve made it many times and it’s always easy and great.

If you freeze a big batch of brown rice and beans, it’s as fast as throwing on some chili powder and grilling up some plantains - EASY. 👌🏼

What do you think about beans?

Hey all, I'm going to be going live on IG on Tuesday next week to answer your questions about going low tox! 👩‍🏫

When: Tuesday, December 21st at 5:15pm - 6:00pm EST
Where: On IG Live and then on IGTV afterwards for the playback

This is the PERFECT time to get a head start on your New Years resolutions and health and sustainability goals because:

1️⃣ this the optimal time to ask for a low tox gift or to send your previously-loved high tox items on to a person in need (who isn't as hormonally sensitive)
2️⃣ you might have some time off to experiment and try something new!

Please DM me your questions ahead of time! Even if you can't make it, feel free to send in your questions and I will answer them on the live. Then you can watch the playback on IGTV.

Some example questions could be, "What do you look for to find a low tox (conditioner, candle, frying pan, mattress, etc)? How do you make (moisturizing oil blend, hormone healthy 1-pot meal, etc)?".

Alsooooo I'm offering a couple of free 1:1 coaching sessions to those of you who submit the best questions (whether you can make it for the live or not) so get those mental juices flowing! I want to hear from you. 😄

Are we going to start off 2022 being the healthiest, best versions of ourselves or what?!💪

Have any of you ever read The Secret Garden? I haven't - I just saw this quote in a quote book and it resonated with me.😊

According to Britannica, it's about a young orphan girl whose interaction with nature spurs a transformation: she becomes kinder, more considerate, and outgoing.

I remember this one time I went to a nature-based art exhibit in the middle of the woods in Pennsylvania. It was very random. One "exhibit" was just a large boulder, positioned next to the path. We looked at each other, and then at the boulder, and then back at one another. "I think we're just supposed to notice this rock", I said with a shrug and somehow it felt very profound.

I think it's important to take a moment from time to time to really observe the world around us. I think it helps us to gain better perspective of our lives, build compassion for others, and stronger resiliency to the changes all around us.

Are you guys going to take mindful moment to observe your environment today?

One concern I hear often is that low tox cleaning products won't work or be as high performing. I felt the same way at first - I wasn't trying to get sick or spend my whole day scrubbing!

So I leaned on my engineering background and researched the heck out of it. After learning the basic chemistry and digging up the evidence, I am fully convinced that low tox cleaning products are perfectly effective.

The reality is, lots of toxic cleaning products are like hitting a nail with a sledgehammer - overkill. Dr. Aly Cohen says that for household use, you don't actually want completely sterile surfaces (which may contribute to antibiotic resistance) - you just need to remove the dirt and most germs.

Vinegar and baking soda are effective home cleaning agents because they are highly reactive. Vinegar is an acid and baking soda is alkaline (as is soap, which is also an emulsifier). Acidic and alkaline solutions have unstable molecules that want to be neutralized, which is why they can easily dissolve dirt and bacteria.

Remember Breaking Bad and how Hiesenberg dissolved a whole human body in acid?? That stuff is no joke.

Would you guys be more likely to DIY your cleaning solutions or buy an eco-version like Seventh Generation at the store? Let me know in the comments.

xx, A

PS - If you're curious, you can read the full study for free online. Google search: "The effectiveness of three home products in cleaning and disinfection of Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli on home environmental surfaces - Goodyear, 2015"

Are you curious how your current cleaning products stack up? Check out the EWG database online. My previous go-to's (409, Clorox, Lysol) all get a D or F rating. It's so shocking, it's almost unbelievable. 😢

Strong evidence shows that some active cleaning agents could have the effect of messing up your hormones, creating antibiotic resistance, negatively impacting your fertility and possibly turning on epigenetic factors that could increase your likelihood of developing cancers down the line.

How is this legal? Because newer ingredients in cleaning products aren't required to be tested for safety before being sold. And on top of that, manufacturers don't legally even need to disclose ingredients on a product label (or to the government) since the formulas are considered trade secrets.

I never would have guessed that some of the stuff I was innocently using to clean my apartment could be harming my body. How crazy would it have been of me to just assume that out of the blue?! But now that I know, I can't un-know it.

The good news is, there are so many wonderful alternatives that make low tox cleaning a cinch. 😊✨

In my 1:1 coaching program, we learn about these and other harmful ingredients and simple, practical ways to make low tox swaps.
