Congratulations to Dr. Hadlock on her publication in the Facial Plastic Surgery & Aesthetic Medicine Women’s Issue!

Her article, “To Everything, There Is a Season: 40 Years of a Surgical Journey—Education Through Professorship and Beyond, Through the Gender Lens”, offers a thoughtful reflection on leadership, growth, and the evolving role of women in surgery.

The takeaway is especially powerful: “Seek leadership training, don’t wait for it (especially in a remedial context). Ask for support, for guidance. Know that what makes a great surgeon can make a problematic leader, without this guidance. When frustrated, master emotion. Don’t hide the femaleness, but leverage it for the better of the entire community. Say sorry. Offer forgiveness. Don’t succumb to the spiral of burnout that contributes to substandard performance, but strategically advocate for policies that prevent burnout. Most of all, don’t judge yourself. It’s okay if some people don’t like you.”

After a year of subspecialty training with Dr. Hadlock, we are proud to announce that our fellow Dr. Catherine Roy will be joining the faculty as an academic facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver!🇨🇦🏔️ While we are sad to lose her this summer, we know she’ll be treating many grateful Canadian patients with facial paralysis North of the border, and can’t wait to see what her future holds!

Grateful for the opportunity to spend time with Ira Papel, Scott Lifchez, and others. Bringing plastic surgery and facial plastic surgery together to collaborate, teach, and learn in one shared space has been truly remarkable. What a difference 40 years makes- from siloed to synergistic!

Throwback Thursday to our Crooked Smile mission trip 🇵🇪

This experience was not only impactful for our patients and the community of Cusco, but also for us. It brought together medical providers from around the world, turning strangers into friends, united by a shared purpose to serve and care for our global community.

Ash*tha, a fourth-year medical student at King’s College London, recently spent two weeks observing at the Hadlock Center! Ash*tha and Dr. Hadlock first met this past fall at the IFNS conference, where her interest in facial paralysis began to grow.

We were so glad you made the trip across the pond to observe and continue your education while learning from Dr. Hadlock. We hope to see you again at a future conference!
