Piggy backing on our post about protein last week, let’s talk about carbs.

Carbs are not just allowed around your workout. They are required.

Your muscles run on glycogen. Your brain runs on glucose. If you train hard and skip carbs, you are slowing your own recovery and setting yourself up for hangriness later in the day and soreness for days.

Carbs before your workout give you the fuel to push harder. Carbs after your workout help restock what you burned and actually make your protein more effective.

It is about eating smarter and fueling your training.

If you are already hitting your post-workout protein, great. Now start pairing it with a fast carb and feel the difference!

Crushed the workout? Awesome. Got a sick pump going? Even better.

What you do next matters just as much as the intensity you put into each day.

Your body is primed to rebuild, recover, and adapt, but only if you give it what it needs. A few things go into that, but it starts with protein.

If you’re not getting at least 25 grams of fast-absorbing protein within 45 minutes of training, you are short-changing your results and your recovery. This is true whether you’re training for performance or just trying to stay above ground a little longer.

Monday Motivation: Age? It’s just a number here. Comfort zones? We don’t need them.

Congratulations to .mello. Jim is a longtime member of Monument who competed at the in Indianapolis last weekend. And by competed we mean Jim and his teammate made the podium as the 2nd fittest 55-59 year old team on the world tour. Jim epitomizes our core beliefs of consistency and hard work getting you to your goals. Amazing job Jim!

Another great performance came from our run coach at the Ladies of Iron meet this past weekend. Kelly ran the in March, the in April (both in 3:50), all while training for this meet where she PRd her deadlift by 15 # (214.5).

We are inspired by people in our community every single day. Making the podium as one of the fittest in the world, competing in events for completely new sports, and showing up every day to do the work, that is what we are all about.
