🧑‍🦼POWERCHAIRS 🧑‍🦼‍➡️
I shared some videos recently of Barney’s off-road beast, but this is the slightly more sedate little vehicle he’s using day to day! It’s absolutely brilliant for giving Barney a lot more independence at home and out and about. For me, it’s been wonderful to not only watch Barney explore the world independently, but to be able to walk beside him while he does it. It’s such a simple change - but when you’re pushing a chair from behind it’s hard to interact and communicate. It’s also bloody hard work up the hills, so I’m delighted he can power himself up them now!
*Barney is using a Sango Slimline, and we used for all his new chairs, who have been brilliant*

A taste of freedom for Barney this Liberation Day! 🇬🇬 We’re in the middle of moving Barney into powered chairs (more to come, it’s VERY exciting!), but today we tried out his new off-road chair for the first time and it was wonderful 🤩 Barney deserves to experience the beach just like any other child - today he headed off to explore rock pools, and made a high speed dash for the sea as soon as we stopped paying attention 😂 We can’t wait for a summer of Barney being able to experience the world under his own steam, and all the benefits for his development and communication that come with that. But if you see him coming, I’d recommend getting out of the way!
*For those interested Barney is using a Extreme X8 - as always, very happy to discuss equipment with anyone looking or thinking about it*

How is it already two weeks since we were in the mountains?! But what a week it was. We’ve wanted to take Barney skiing for years - but the logistics were so challenging we couldn’t quite make it work. This year (with a lot of help), we finally managed it … and it was more than worth the wait. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen Barney as happy as he was speeding down the slopes with the incredible Sami 💙 The only issue was I couldn’t keep up! It was the most special time for our family - now to make it work again next year …
If anyone is considering taking a wheelchair to the mountains, do it! Barney not only loved the skiing - he loved the scenery and the space, and that wonderful mountain air. I’d also thoroughly recommend , who not only organised everything brilliantly for Barney but ensured Teddy had a great week in his lessons too 🥰
The biggest thank you to everyone who helped make it happen - we’ll remember it forever ⛷️🗻💙

No back to school photo today for Barney, but still feeling very proud of this little superstar 🤩 He’s spent the week in Southampton having surgery on his knees and hamstrings, and was very glad to finally get home today. He’s got a tough few months ahead, but we’re hoping it will all be worth it once he gets his braces off in 12 weeks 😬 Wish us all luck!

A bit late - and I can’t even blame the time difference - but a big happy birthday to this little champ 🎂🎈8️⃣ I can’t believe he’s eight - and I don’t think he can believe I’ve brought him to therapy for another birthday! Luckily his lovely ladies gave him plenty of extra birthday treats so I don’t think he found it too tough 😁

And that’s a wrap on three weeks of NAPA Center! So proud of this little superstar 🤩 He has worked so hard and done so well this intensive - giggling his way through his and putting in so much effort with everything. This particular exercise takes a huge amount of strength and co-ordination for him - he found it super tricky at the start of this intensive, but was virtually cruising through it by the end. Go Barney! 👏

What a team! Barney wouldn’t achieve anything at without all his incredible therapists. Every time we come we are blown away by how dedicated and talented everyone who works with Barney is. We are so grateful to them all - and Barney is clearly VERY happy to be surrounded by all these lovely ladies 🥰 We missed his faves , and very much today - hopefully see you all soon! 😘

As usual, it’s been a while since we’ve updated on here so thought it was a good time for a post! Barney flew back to Boston last weekend for his first NAPA Center intensive of 2022 ✈️🇺🇸 We’re now a week in to his three-week stint and we couldn’t be prouder of him 🤩 Barney has traditionally worked fairly hard at therapy - while telling us very loudly that it’s hard and he doesn’t really want to be there! This week, we’ve seen a complete shift in his attitude to it - he’s channeling all his energy and determination into doing his absolute best. The only time he’s complained has been through frustration when he’s trying really hard to do something and not quite managing it. The change might be due to him simply being older or appreciating the benefits of therapy - whatever it is, we’ll take it! We’ve never had such a positive first week, so we’re feeling very excited to see what he’ll manage over the next two 💪 Go Barney!
