👶 Dreaming of twins? Double the love sounds magical, but in surrogacy, a double embryo transfer (DET) can also mean double the risk.

Let’s break it down 👇

When two embryos are transferred into one Surrogate, the chances of twins rise to 55% — and even triplets in rare cases.

Sounds efficient? Maybe. ❗ But in reality, twin pregnancies carry serious risks:
⚠️ Premature birth — 60% of twins (vs. 8% of singletons)
⚠️ Low birth weight — often under 2.5 kg
⚠️ Higher risk of gestational diabetes & pre-eclampsia
⚠️ Longer NICU stays and more emotional/medical strain for everyone involved

🤔 So how do twins happen?
🧬 Fraternal twins = Two embryos, two placentas (common with DET)
🧬 Identical twins = One embryo splits, often riskier if sharing a placenta or sac

✨ A safer path? Meet the “twiblings” approach.
Instead of transferring two embryos to one Surrogate, doctors transfer one embryo to each of two Surrogates — ideally at the same time. 📅
