Comment “LABS” below and I’ll send you the exact cheat sheet of labs I use with women in their 40s to uncover what’s actually behind their constipation, bloat, weight gain, and fatigue.

If your first instinct is to cut more calories or get stricter with your diet to fix bloat, constipation, and that stubborn 5–7 pound weight gain in your 40s… you’re probably looking in the wrong place.

Most women are told their thyroid is “normal” after only testing TSH and free T4.

That is not a full thyroid picture.

You need to look at total T3, free T3, and thyroid antibodies too.

Your thyroid controls your metabolism, gut motility, energy production, and how well your cells function.

So if you’re exhausted, constipated, bloated, gaining weight overnight, and feeling like your body suddenly stopped responding to the things that used to work… this is where I would start.

And cutting calories harder can actually slow your metabolism down even more, making your symptoms worse. It’s like throwing gasoline on a fire.

You do not need more restriction. You need better data.

Comment “LABS” below and I’ll DM you the exact labs to request in your 40s if you’re dealing with constipation, bloat, weight gain, and fatigue.

Comment “LABS” below and I’ll DM you the link to download the list of labs to help you stop the 3:00 AM wake-ups, calm PMS, and lose the perimenopause weight gain.

In 2024, I gained 30 pounds in a matter of a few months. My periods got wonky. I stopped sleeping through the night, and I was exhausted all the time.

It was a combination of Lyme treatment and turning 40, but honestly, it was one of the most embarrassing times of my life.

These are the exact labs that everyone missed that actually helped me understand what was going on in my body contributing to my weight gain, 3:00 AM wake-ups, and PMS that I’d never had before.

SPOILER alert, my estrogen and progesterone levels were the least interesting findings.

Comment “LABS” below and I’ll send you the link to download the list of perimenopause labs you’re missing.

Your body in your 40s is different than it was in your 30s. It requires a different strategy, and you don’t have to figure it out alone.

If you are struggling to lose weight in your 40s and feel like you’ve gained weight overnight without changing your diet or exercise, this post is for you.

There are a number of shifts that can happen in your body in your 40s - everything from fluctuating progesterone levels affecting sleep to increased cortisol sensitivity, which is why what worked in your 20s and 30s isn’t working this time.

These changes can also include elevated insulin levels as a result of declining estrogen levels, which can contribute to fat storage and decreased fat burning.

How do you know what’s contributing to your weight gain in your 40s - and whether insulin is an issue for you? I didn’t know it was for me until I tested my fasting insulin levels.

I have a completely free guide on the labs to request in your 40s, including the exact blood sugar markers to monitor to determine if blood sugar issues are contributing to your weight gain.

Comment “LABS” below, and I’ll DM you the link to download my free lab guide. It’s never too early in your 40s to get a baseline of your blood sugar levels, a complete picture of your thyroid health, and an understanding of what your female hormone levels look like.

I’ll never forget walking into a doctor’s office 12 years ago, filling out a questionnaire, and being told to start medication for bipolar disorder after just a 10-minute meeting.

No other doctor had ever even considered that diagnosis—and it hasn’t been mentioned since.

Thankfully, I trusted my gut and dug deeper before starting those meds, even though I had no idea what steps to take—especially in a time when the long-term effects weren’t well understood.

I want to be clear: I’m not anti-medication. Modern medicine is an incredible gift. If medication is working for you and feels like the right answer, don’t let me or anyone else tell you otherwise.

That said, most of the clients I work with are taking an SSRI, yet they still feel anxious, exhausted, bloated, and like their GI tract is a complete disaster.

What I am against is prescribing an SSRI for a collection of symptoms without ever investigating the root cause—or offering any guidance beyond another medication—especially when the first prescription doesn’t really make you feel better.

Call me crazy, but why keep doing the same thing when it’s really not working?

If you’re ready to take a deeper look, comment “labs” below, and I’ll automatically DM you the list of foundational labs I use with my 1:1 clients.
