No child should be out of reach for life-saving vaccines. In the riverine areas of Bayelsa, Nigeria, many families face dangerous and expensive boat trips just to reach a health clinic. We worked with local health teams to change that by taking the clinic to them. By traveling through the mangrove swamps to remote fishing camps, our teams successfully vaccinated 1,893 children in the Brass region between August 2025 and March 2026, including 1,170 who were/of which were zero-dose or under-immunized. Reaching zero-dose children requires more than documenting results. The JSI-led Zero-Dose Learning Hub’s Theory-Based Evaluation Toolkit helps governments and partners understand how and why immunization strategies succeed or fall short, using practical tools and country examples to support learning, adaptation, and better decision-making. After several destructive cyclones stalled vaccination progress in Mozambique, a major recovery effort is underway. In late March, the latest “Big Catch-up” campaign reached 432,474 children who had missed their routine immunizations. JSI is proud to support the Ministry of Health in training teams and managing vaccine supplies to ensure every child is protected, regardless of the challenges. What does it take to plan and budget effectively for reaching zero-dose children?

The JSI-led Zero-Dose Learning Hub developed a Costing Toolkit to help governments and partners navigate the complexity of immunization costing. Using an ingredients-based approach, the toolkit supports teams in capturing the full financial and economic value of interventions to inform budgeting, advocacy, and sustainability planning. Immunization Costing The Zero-Dose Learning Hub (ZDLH) Costing Toolkit is the central resource for estimating the costs of interventions to reach zero-dose (ZD) and under-immunized (UI) children. In Ethiopia, JSI is helping private hospitals move from paper-based reporting to using real-time data to improve patient care. At Amin General Hospital, data reviews recently highlighted a high rate of cesarean sections. By using this information to launch awareness campaigns and introduce new pain relief options for labor, the hospital was able to provide women with more informed delivery choices. This success shows how data-informed decision-making leads to better health outcomes. Learn more: https://www.jsi.org/private-sector-data-health-landscape-ethiopia/

JSI worked with Ethiopia's Ministry of Health to develop a Health Management Information System implementation guideline tailored for private sector use.

JSI believes all people should have what they need to live their healthiest lives and reach their full potential. Immunization is one of the most cost-effective and high-impact public health interventions in history, protecting people at every stage of life.

For every generation, vaccines work, protecting people against over 30 infectious diseases, globally saving more than 154 million lives in the past five decades. Throughout this , we highlighted the importance of immunization programs and how JSI works in close collaboration with ministries of health and global partners to strengthen routine immunization services.

We work towards reaching the individuals and communities to ensure that these life-saving products are available where and when they are needed the most. JSI remains committed to delivering every dose effectively so people can grow, thrive, and lead healthy lives for generations to come.

Reaching zero-dose and under-immunized children requires understanding not only whether an intervention worked, but how and why it did.

The JSI-led Zero-Dose Learning Hub has created a Theory-Based Evaluation Toolkit to help governments and partners design and evaluate immunization strategies using clear, explicit theories of change. Drawing on country learning from Bangladesh, Mali, Nigeria, and Uganda, the toolkit supports real-time learning, adaptation, and stronger decision-making.

This , we’re reflecting on the progress we have made to ensure vaccines work for every generation, including reaching children who have never received a single dose. The JSI-led Zero-Dose Learning Hub has spent the past few years doing just that: working with teams in Bangladesh, Mali, Nigeria, and Uganda to turn implementation research into tools and learning programs that can be used to improve their planning and outreach.

Gavi’s Zero-Dose Learning Hub has spent 2025 building evidence and tools that can drive immunisation progress. Here are the highlights, with resources to help move research into sustainable action.

For World Immunization Week, we’re looking at what it takes to get life-saving vaccines to every community. At JSI, we know the "how" of delivery is just as important as the vaccine itself.

A vaccine is only as effective as the system that keeps it cold. In partnership with the Ministry of Health,Ethiopia, we have redefined cold chain sustainability through low-cost, high-impact innovations.

In our featured three-part series for Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance's , we dive into:
1️⃣ The Human Factor: Training 100+ technicians to lead a government-owned maintenance system.
2️⃣ Digital Lifelines: Using Telegram to connect isolated technicians for real-time troubleshooting.
3️⃣ Data Visibility: Turning FridgeTag data into actionable diagnostic reports.

By linking data to informed action, we are ensuring every community is reached to provide children with life-saving vaccines. Learn more: https://www.jsi.org/ethiopia-redefining-cold-chain-sustainability/

In a three-part series, we explore how JSI partnered with the Ethiopian Ministry of Health to move toward a sustainable, low-cost cold chain optimization.
