Postpartum warning signs you should not ignore. This is NOT to cause fear, this is to provide important information, and knowledge is power. Most dangerous hemorrhages will happen in the first 24-48 hours, but the first 6 weeks postpartum is the highest window for complications after birth.

Was there a time you felt like you had a nurse who really spoke up for you and what you wanted? A time you wished they would? When I was a new nurse, I was sometimes scared to speak up. Scared to question decisions. Scared to rock the boat. Scared to sound “difficult.” That’s gone now. With experience came confidence — and the understanding that advocacy isn’t about ego or control. It’s about safety, clarity, and dignity. I will go toe to toe to make sure my patients are heard. And when care needs to shift for safety, I will slow it down, explain the why, outline the options, and protect their right to choice and respect. You can provide excellent medical care and honor someone’s wishes. Those things are not opposites. That’s the nurse I am now. And that’s the nurse every patient deserves.
