According to Very Well Mind, cognitive distortions are negative or irrational patterns of thinking. These negative thought patterns can play a role in diminishing your motivation, lowering your self-esteem, and contributing to problems like anxiety and depression.πŸƒ

Cognitive distortions are thoughts that cause individuals to perceive reality inaccurately. We all experience faulty thoughts. However, we have to put our thoughts on trial and examine their root cause so we can show up in the best way possible as our thoughts, feelings, and behavior are interconnected.πŸƒ

Reframe your thoughts by not disqualifying the positive, don't always believe what you think, and check for validity. Counter your thoughts with truth because our minds, though ours, can play tricks on us altering our reality based on unpleasant experiences and untruths.πŸƒ

Having a good work-life balance is important for your mental health.

Here are some ways to implement balance into your routine:

1. Plan ahead to combine work activities with leisure, social, or fitness activities.

2. Embrace the way your brain works. Use productivity hacks like a Pomodoro timer to work in short, focused bursts.

3. Set blocks of time for different tasks. Have a time where you check (and respond to) messages, a time when you take meetings, and time to do mentally-intensive work.

4. End work at a certain time. Set a time to end work for the day, and reinforce it by powering down work-related devices, locking your office, or scheduling something afterward.

5. Enlist technology to help you unplug. If you can, restrict work to one device, or try to keep one work-free device so you can disconnect completely.

Creating work-life balance requires intention and consistency. Try some of these techniques this week and see how much your work-life balance improves!

Sometimes we must look behind the "happy" to make sure it's not just wrapping paper covering trauma.

As humans, we can inadvertently become mental hoarders. We tend to hold on to every happy memory without realizing that there may be baggage tied to it.

In the words of the fabulous Ms. Badu, "pack light".

Prioritizing self-care has been getting more attention in recent years, and we’re glad! The more attention we put on practicing self-care, the better.

Because self-care isn’t a fad or a trend. It should be an integral part of our lives to preserve our mental wellness.

Taking good care of ourselves enables us to lead balanced lives, serve others and show up for our communities the way we desire.

Self-sabotage manifests itself in the way we think, feel, and act. If I believe I am undeserving or useless, I will treat my surroundings in the same way. Because I don't believe I deserve to be in the room in the first place, I'm muting my voice and thoughts.

"Don't boo yourself off the stage before giving folks a chance to see you!" I once heard someone say. As a result, reframe your negative thoughts, inhale and exhale deeply, and speak positive affirmations over yourself.

Then go out and show up taking up space because you deserve to be where you are. Make your presence known and use your voice. Claim your spot!

Mental health stigma refers to the societal disapproval or shame society places on people who live with or seek help for emotional distress, such as anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, or PTSD.

The pressure of mental health stigma can come from family, friends, coworkers, and society on a broader level. It can prevent people living with mental illness from seeking help, fitting into society, and leading happy and comfortable lives.

At Restorative Minds, we seek to counter mental health stigma by fostering mental health competency through empowering, cultivating, and restoring minds through education, training, coaching, and consulting.

Our goal is to use an interactive, engaging, and individualized approach to teach and coach professionals, youth, and young adults about mental health conditions and wellness.

Here are three wellness tips for the week! It's easy to get caught up in the hustle of activities and things that need your attention, but it's critical to remember to prioritize yourself.

It does not have to be for a long time, but it is needed. Meditation, yoga, walks, jam sessions, or disengaging from your job to speak with a friend are all good ways to make time for yourself.

Allow yourself to feel your feelings, not diminish what you're feeling, and share in a safe environment if you're feeling uninspired this week. A conversation with a trusted friend or the written expression of your thoughts might help you regulate your emotions and offer clarity to what you're feeling.

Many people isolate themselves when they are processing unpleasant circumstances and embracing their journey towards healing. You may feel depressed, stressed, or going through a difficult situation, and you need your community. You gain strength and comfort when you have a safe and trusted person to help you sort through life's upheavals.

Therapist Lisa Olivera once said, "Just because no one else can heal or do your inner work for you doesn't mean you can, should, or need to do it alone." We need one another, and when you isolate yourself by socially withdrawing, it can heighten your nervous system's response to the stressors causing you to loathe, ruminate, and succumb to unhealthy coping mechanisms.

For this reason, lean into someone or a community where compassion, trust, and safety are present, who will hold space for you because we are not here to do life alone. Don't focus on quantifying your circle, rather, assess the quality within it, and give yourself permission to breathe there.
