A helicopter crash in Evergreen on Sunday afternoon left a road closed as emergency responders worked the scene, according to the city’s fire department.

The crash occurred at about 3:12 p.m. on South Main Road in Evergreen, impacting a private residence, according to a news release from the city. One person at the home was transported to a Montgomery hospital with cardiac concerns after the crash.

Two of the medical staff onboard the helicopter were injured with one in critical condition and the other listed as stable at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, according to the release. There was no patient on board at the time of the crash.

Investigators with the National Transportation Safety Board will be on site today, city officials say.

Congressman Shomari Figures has been in contact with Mayor Stanley Stallworth regarding the incident. South Main Street near the crash will remain closed as the investigation continues.

The department said the roadway from MLK to Evergreen Hospital has been shut down and residents are advised to avoid the area.

Our CEO/Founder received a letter from the President of the United States in which he states that the White House will remain steadfast in their resolve to support our first responders and military members. That the American Spirit is defined by caring and compassion.

So with all we are trying to accomplish for Montanas EMS providers, could you not spare $5, $10 for this cause? We; all of the volunteers here, believe in each and every member of the EMS community and are here for them and their families. We have families request things every month for their lost loved one; yet not one has offered a kind word, a donation to help us make this dream come true. So we wonder does it really matter to you to have your loved one honored? To be remembered? It makes us wonder why do we do this. Write a comment below, let us (who donate countless hours every month for your loved one, for this cause) and let us know your thoughts. We have some wonderful sponsors who believe in our providers, don't you? Montana, show us and every EMS provider who will be there when you call at the worst moment in your life that you care.

A medical helicopter serving Vanderbilt University Medical Center crashed in Tennessee on Saturday, leaving one crew member dead and two others critically injured, the center said.

The helicopter crashed near Lebanon, Tenn., a town about 30 miles east of Nashville in Wilson County, according to the National Transportation Safety Board. It was operated by Vanderbilt LifeFlight, a medical services provider that is part of the medical center in Nashville.

Vanderbilt LifeFlight said in a statement that one crew member died and two others were critically injured when the helicopter crashed on Saturday afternoon. No patients were on board, it said.

John Howser, a spokesman for the medical center, declined to provide more information on the victims.

Vanderbilt LifeFlight uses nine helicopters, each carrying a team of two nurses, or a nurse and a paramedic, from the medical center. Its air operations are run by Air Methods, a helicopter operator that also provides air medical transport services to dozens of health care institutions across the United States.

Air Methods did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The transportation safety board said it was investigating the crash. The Wilson County Sheriff’s Office said that the Federal Aviation Administration was also investigating. The F.A.A. did not respond immediately to an inquiry late Saturday.

Registered medical helicopters transported more than 370,000 patients and flew more than half a million hours across the country last year, according to the F.A.A. There were an average of 1.75 accidents per 100,000 flight hours.

Mont. medevac crew walks away from crash uninjured

August 27, 2025 10:51 AM

LINCOLN, Mont. — A Life Flight helicopter crashed in Lincoln early Tuesday morning, authorities confirmed.

The helicopter’s crew walked away uninjured.

“This morning, at approximately 1:10 a.m. MDT, our Missoula-based aircraft and crew (LF 88) were involved in an accident in Lincoln, MT,” a Life Flight Network spokesperson said Tuesday. “There was no patient on board, and our team reported no injuries. We are deeply grateful that everyone is safe and able to return home to their families.”

The company says they are cooperating fully with local and federal authorities as they investigate the cause of this incident.

“At this time, our focus is on supporting the well-being of our team,” the spokesperson said. “We will provide further updates as more information becomes available.”

According to Zach Muse, Lincoln Volunteer Fire Rescue chief, the medical transport helicopter from Missoula was trying to land right in the center of Lincoln off of state Highway 200 when its rotor clipped a business sign, sending the helicopter crashing into the ground.

“There is debris everywhere,” Muse said when reached by phone Tuesday. “One hundred yards in every direction.”

Highway 200 is closed to both eastbound and westbound traffic until further notice. A detour is in place.

The crash happened as the helicopter was responding to a four-wheeler crash.

The Federal Aviation Administration will be investigating the crash.

The helicopter, tail number N38AJ, is a Bell 407 registered to Keybank NA out of Superior, Colorado.

“The Bell 407GXi is highly reliable and lives up to its reputation as a proven air medical helicopter,” a post on the Life Flight Network’s website reads. “With its ultra-advanced avionics suite, the Bell 407GXi includes three-dimensional terrain mapping for the pilot and a two-axis autopilot for increased safety. Its power-to-weight ratio provides for excellent performance at high altitudes. An enhanced communications platform allows teams to seamlessly communicate with the dispatching agency or receiving hospital en route, on approach for landing, or at any other time during the patient transfer process.”

Life Flight Network is a not-for-profit patient transport service providing helicopter, fixed-wing and ground ambulance transport throughout Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Montana.

“Our mission is saving lives with industry-leading care and transport,” the company’s website reads.

Today is National First Responders Day, do you care?

Every year on October 28th, we honor the brave individuals who risk their lives daily to keep our communities safe. National First Responders Day recognizes the dedication and sacrifice of firefighters, police officers, deputies, EMTs, paramedics, other emergency personnel and public works professionals who serve on the front lines during emergencies and disasters.

First responders are often the first to arrive at the scene of accidents, natural disasters, medical emergencies, and public safety threats. Dedicated public safety professionals work tirelessly, day and night, to ensure the safety, security, and well-being of our residents, responding with courage, skill, and compassion in moments of greatest need. Public Works professionals play a critical yet often unseen role in emergency response and recovery, ensuring safe roads, clean water, functioning infrastructure, and rapid restoration of essential services during storms, floods, accidents, and other crises.

The coordinated efforts of all first responders, working side by side, demonstrate courage, professionalism, and commitment to public service in the face of danger and uncertainty.

October 28th is an opportunity for YOU to us build to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. In the John 15:13 states, "Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends," emphasizing the ultimate expression of love through self-sacrifice. This verse highlights the importance of putting others' needs before one's own, reflecting the love that Jesus showed.

WHERE DID AIR AMBULANCES ORIGINATE FROM?

Air ambulances originated from the need to transport injured individuals quickly, with early uses dating back to the Siege of Paris in 1870 when balloons were used for medical evacuations. The concept evolved significantly during World War I and II, leading to the establishment of organized air medical services for civilian and military use.

The concept of air ambulances dates back to the Siege of Paris in 1870, where balloons were used to transport injured soldiers. The first organized air ambulance flights occurred during World War I, primarily to evacuate wounded soldiers from battlefields.

World War II saw the introduction of fixed-wing aircraft for medical evacuations, with flight nurses providing care during transport. Helicopters became more common in the Korean and Vietnam Wars, allowing for quicker access to medical care in challenging terrains.

In 1928, the Flying Doctor Service was established in Australia, providing medical services to remote areas, including air ambulance evacuations. The air ambulance industry expanded significantly in the 1980s, with private companies emerging to meet the growing demand for emergency medical transport.

Today, air ambulances include both helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft, operated by hospitals, government agencies, and private companies. They are crucial for rapid medical transport, especially in rural or hard-to-reach areas, and are equipped with specialized medical personnel and equipment.

Air ambulances play a crucial role in emergency medical services, particularly for critically ill or injured patients. Over 550,000 patients utilize air ambulance services in the United States each year. Studies indicate that patients transported by air ambulances have a higher survival rate compared to those taken by ground ambulances. For instance, one study found that only 43 patients died in the emergency room after being transported by air, compared to 585 deaths for ground transport.

Air ambulances are essential for providing rapid medical care, especially in rural areas where access to hospitals is limited. They are equipped with advanced medical equipment and staffed by trained medical professionals, which enhances their ability to save lives in critical situations.

Several members of our Executive staff here at Montana Emergency Medical Services Memorial Foundation are HEMS Pilots & Medics, So, when you see a aircraft on the "CLOSED" Highway, PLEASE Be patient as their their patient has one foot in the grave and one on a banana peel.
