Happy Friday, friends! Blake helped me prepare for the zoom class I taught this week. The theme was wintering. Across all ancestral wisdom traditions, this time of year ( deep winter in the Northern Hemisphere) is treated as a strategic pause. It's a season to turn inward, nourish the nervous system, sharpen intuition and let fall away what we've outgrown. Our bodies and systems mirror nature's cycles, so as the earth rests and hibernates, our bodies need extra time, space and quiet rest....to steady our hearts and minds so we may continue offering love, compassion and our gifts with world. The invitation is to release striving and honor this holy pause between death and rebirth, endings and new beginnings...to listen to what your soul/intuition need you to hear.

Why Colibri Yoga? Colibri is the Spanish word for hummingbird. Hummingbirds are often seen as symbols of joy, love, good luck, and positive energy. They are also believed to be spiritual messengers and can represent healing, beauty, and the return of loved ones. In some cultures, they symbolize hope and strength, especially during difficult times. (And I feel like these are some pretty difficult times we're trying to get through!!) This artwork is by Juanita C., which I borrowed from a thank you card she created.

It's fascinating to me that, over the last 20-30 years, Western science has been confirming the effectiveness of ancient practices on our mental and physical health and wellbeing. Grateful to Yoga Medicine by Tiffany Cruikshank for the incredible trainings they offer to teachers...like the Neurobiology of Yoga course that I recently completed.

All of our ancestral wisdom traditions, including yoga, are inextricably linked to Pacha Mama and Mother Nature. I often get yoga instruction, and other creative, ideas when I'm out in nature....listening, smelling, observing the miracles.

This is a powerful reminder for taking care of our spirit, mind & body...."According to the National Institute for Play, it is a biological drive, just like sleep and nutrition.1 Neuroscience research backs this up. Play floods the brain with dopamine, lowers cortisol, and activates the prefrontal cortex, boosting problem-solving, empathy, and emotional regulation.2 It improves mood, energy, and resilience. And in adults, it’s directly linked to lower stress, stronger connections, and higher engagement. In other words, play isn’t trivial in adulthood; it’s biological fuel and just as vital as when we were children."

I'm a research nerd, so sharing this request for a survey being conducted by researchers associated with neuroyoganyc: Dr. Neha Gothe at Northeastern University and Jonathan Rosenthal are conducting an IRB-approved research study to better understand:

What yoga practices people are actually doing?
How they feel yoga helps them?
Any adverse events that may have occurred?

Yoga teachers, yoga students, yoga centers, and beyond are invited to participate through OCT. 31. Here's this link:

The purpose of this study is to understand the demographics, motivations, practices, and outcomes of yoga practitioners across the world. Participating in this research study will include answering questions about yourself and your experiences. The survey will take about 15 minutes to complete. You....
