The family of Bob Menke and Wayne HealthCare Foundation are excited to announce the creation of the Bob Menke HeartWise Initiative.
On August 22, 2015 Bob passed away from heart disease at the age of 38. With no family history and a healthy lifestyle, his condition went undiagnosed. We want to ensure that this does not happen to anyone else’s family or friend. Offered at nearly every hospital, a vascular screening may have saved Bob’s life.
Since 2016 the Menke family, along with Wayne HealthCare and foundational support from the Midmark Corporation, has hosted the Heart Health 5k in memory of Bob Menke, formerly 4 Miles for Heart and Health. The proceeds from that event has subsidized 2,467 vascular screenings, resulting in one-third of those - 820 - to a cardiologist or family provider for follow-up. The impact has been dramatic.
Because of this success, it was only natural to make this an on-going service to the community. In August of 2023 the Menke family established an endowment with the Wayne HealthCare Foundation for permanent funding to continue to subsidize these critical tests and make them affordable to everyone. There will be opportunities to help build this fund with matching donations and with annual events for continuing support from our local businesses and individual donors.
