Most of you know, I was a Yin Yoga Instructor for many years before I became certified as a Personal Trainer... I'm coming up on about 10 years of teaching Yin Yoga, and almost at my 1 year mark of being a Certified Trainer.
What this means for my clients- is I'm able to offer balanced programming that helps to tend to both parts of the person- taking into account the whole person. Some of our work together is Yang (Masculine- muscular, energetic, dynamic, endurance based, etc.) and some of our work is Yin (Feminine- stretching, mindful, soft, surrendered, easy, sweet).
All that being said- I also like to teach my clients how to find the Yin within the Yang.... By balancing/harmonizing your energy- I really believe you are able to tap into your Divinely Sourced Power- allowing your workouts to be even more effective, powerful and feel even better- Body, Mind & Spirit.
Ways to Bring the Yin into the Yang:
1. Set an intention for your session- maybe it's to be mindful/connected to your breath, or to really focus on the Muscle Mind Connection (bringing awareness to the muscles that are doing the work), or perhaps it's just to stay present/in the moment, etc.
2. DITCH the timer- count reps instead. As you count it helps to take you out of your head/mind and into the present moment. Focus on quality of movement vs. quantity.
3. Release your smart watch for the session/workout- tune into your body and the present moment. Allow how you FEEL (vs your watch) to guide you. Experiment with listening to your body- you'll know when you can go a little harder/longer, or when you need to pull back to conserve energy.
4. Light a candle- make the moment special... it's an hour just for yourself.
5. Release the need for immediate results and enJOY the process. Try new things, experiment, play, let go!
6. Get outside- getting outside immediately helps to soften some of my Yang!
7. Honor what your body needs that day. If you've programmed heavier lifting, but it's NOT what your body is asking for- be willing to change plans. Just because you don't want to lift heavy that day, does not mean that you never will. Be flexible in your programming!
These are just a few of the methods/ways I help bring Yin into the Yang (strength, cardio, endurance, HIIT workouts)... as you soften (bring forth the Yin)- I guarantee you will find more ease... with ease will come greater power, strength and endurance... and with time and consistency- greater results!
Much Love! B 🌹
