For Toosdhi Holliday, nursing has always been about caring for people through lifeโs most difficult moments.
โIโve always been fascinated with the medical field,โ Toosdhi shared. โI loved learning about how the body works, nutrition, and helping people when they donโt feel their best.โ
That passion eventually led her to pursue a career as a licensed practical nurse, allowing her to work on the clinic side of healthcare where she could spend more time connecting with patients and families.
Her calling for healthcare became even clearer through personal experiences with family. Toosdhi recalls watching her sister care for her prematurely born niece who faced lifelong medical challenges and multiple surgeries.
โWatching how my sister handled treatments, wound care, and everything involved fascinated me,โ she says. โThen my mother became ill and needed care as well, and thatโs when I decided to enroll in LPN school.โ
Over the last 20 years, Toosdhi has built lasting connections with countless patients and coworkers. She says one of the most meaningful moments in her career came after the passing of a longtime patient.
โOne day, his wife and daughters came to the clinic just to thank me,โ she recalled. โThey hugged me and thanked me for the phone calls, checking in on him, and helping him smile even when he wasnโt feeling well. Iโll always remember that day.โ
At CoxHealth Branson West Clinic, Toosdhi says the close-knit environment allows caregivers to form special relationships with patients that go beyond routine appointments.
โWe get to know our patients, their kids, grandkids, and even their pets sometimes,โ she says. โBecause we know them so well, we can notice when something seems different and help catch potential health concerns early.โ
When asked what she is most proud of in her nursing career, her answer comes back to the people she has cared for over the years.
โI hope I can make a difference in someoneโs life, even if itโs just taking a moment to listen,โ she says. โI have a sign at home that reads, โTo the world you may be one person, but to one person you may be the world.โ It always makes me smile and serves as a reminder of why I do what I do.โ
