This message came in recently, it made our day, and we just had to share it. 💚

“Thank you so much! Words cannot express how much our sessions with Kris helped us improve our health. Previously, I was diagnosed with diabetes. I lost 35 pounds, improved our eating choices, and started actively walking daily. I no longer need to take Metformin. My A1c was 5.7 when checked last Friday.”

She also shared this about her husband:

“My husband came with me to the sessions because we grocery shop together and talk about planning our meals. He lost 83 pounds, and has kept his off within 2 pounds.”

— R.A., Nashville Nutrition & Weight Loss patient

🙌🏻 A combined 118 pounds.
🙌🏻 Diabetes managed through food and movement.
🙌🏻 Less medication needed.
🙌🏻 A couple who tackled this together, from the grocery store to the dinner table.

This is EXACTLY why we do and love this work.

If you’ve been thinking about getting started, most patients pay $0 out-of-pocket. We’ll check your insurance before your first visit so there are no surprises.

Big news in the nutrition world, and we need your help. 📣

Congress is considering the Medical Nutrition Therapy Act, a bill that would expand Medicare coverage for dietitian services to include obesity, prediabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, eating disorders, cancer, and more. This would be in line with what many commercial insurance plans already cover.

Right now, Medicare only covers medical nutrition therapy for diabetes and kidney disease. That leaves a lot of people who need and deserve this care without access.

One of the reasons we opened Nashville Nutrition & Weight Loss was to make quality nutrition care more accessible. We love working with our Medicare patients, and it's genuinely hard to tell someone that a service we know would help them just isn't covered.

That's why this bill matters to us. And why we're asking you to help.

👉 Take 2 minutes to contact your representatives and urge them to support the MNT Act. We'll add the link in comments that takes you directly to a simple page to send your message.

Many commercial insurance plans include nutrition counseling under preventive benefits.

Depending on your specific plan, this may mean visits are covered at no cost to you, may not require a referral, and may not require you to meet your deductible first. Many plans also allow access for general healthy nutrition counseling, not just medical diagnoses.

Because every policy is different, our team helps verify your coverage before your first appointment so you understand your benefits and any potential costs upfront.

Using your insurance for individualized nutrition counseling may be more accessible than you think.

Weight loss can stall, even when you’re being consistent.

As weight decreases, your body adapts. Energy needs shift. Hunger can increase. Hydration fluctuates. Stress, sleep, medications, menstrual cycle changes, and hormones all play a role. Body composition changes, such as building muscle while losing fat, can also affect what you see on the scale.

A plateau is a normal part of the weight loss process.

Sometimes it means your current plan needs a more comprehensive assessment. Sometimes it means a thoughtful adjustment.

Nutrition counseling helps you step back, evaluate what’s happening, and make targeted changes that support continued progress.

Bariatric surgery changes anatomy — but long-term success requires ongoing support.

Life after surgery continues to evolve. Habits shift, routines loosen, tolerance changes, and life circumstances rarely stay static.

That’s why we offer a free monthly virtual bariatric support group for adults who are at least one year post-surgery and looking for structure, tools, and connection.

Each session includes:
• Community with others who understand
• Practical discussion around habits and consistency
• Education and guidance led by an experienced Registered Dietitian Nutritionist

Struggling with plateaus, weight regain, or changing appetite doesn’t mean you failed. It often means more tailored, long-term support would help.

Most nutrition plans don’t fall apart on good days — they fall apart on the busy ones.

Planning for busy days means having go-to options in place before stress levels are high. Waiting until you’re exhausted or overly hungry to make food choices often leads to reacting vs choosing.

This might include backup meals or snacks, a flexible weekly structure, and/or having food options available that realistically work on lower-energy days.

Nutrition counseling helps you build plans that hold up on stressful days — not just on ideal ones.

Weight loss is often framed as a matter of “trying harder,” but that’s a major oversimplification.

Body weight is influenced by many factors — including habits, metabolism, genetics, medications, sleep, stress, and environment.

When progress feels nearly impossible, it doesn’t mean you’re failing. It often means the approach doesn’t fit your body or your current life circumstances.

Professional nutrition support helps shift the focus away from pressure and toward strategies that work with you — not against you.

You don’t need the perfect nutrition plan to make progress.

Most sustainable change doesn’t come from completely overhauling your current routines. It comes from small, doable changes you can put on repeat.

Trying to change everything at once can make progress feel impossible — and keep you from starting at all.

A little planning, even flexible planning, often makes busy days easier to navigate.

Progress isn’t about perfection. Consistency matters more than doing everything “right,” and you don’t need to have it all figured out to start — or to succeed.

Our dietitians help you build strategies that work in real life — your life.

Nutrition counseling is often misunderstood as dieting — rigid plans, food rules, or expectations of perfection.

In reality, it’s collaborative, flexible, and focused on real life. This surprises many of our clients, who come in worried they’ll have to give up their favorite foods.

We work with you to:
• Understand your goals and health history
• Build routines that fit your schedule and preferences
• Adjust recommendations and strategies as things change

It’s support — not rules.

Protein gets a lot of attention, but fiber often gets left behind.

We see this frequently in sessions, especially when people are focused on weight loss or improving blood sugar. Protein becomes the priority, and fiber unintentionally drops off.

Fiber plays an important role in digestion, fullness, blood sugar, and heart health. And increasing it doesn’t require a major diet overhaul.

Some simple ways to add more fiber:
• Beans, peas, and lentils (great in winter soups)
• Berries and vegetables
• Chia or flax seeds
• Whole grains you already enjoy

One of our favorite snack (or side dish) examples is edamame, which provides both protein and fiber and, with its mild flavor, can be seasoned however you like.

Nutrition counseling helps you find fiber sources and amounts that work for your body, preferences, and goals — not generic targets.

GLP-1 medications can be incredibly helpful — and nutrition still matters.

Medication can change appetite and physiology, but it doesn’t come with an instruction manual for daily eating, side effects, or long-term maintenance.

Nutrition counseling helps translate those changes into routines that support energy, nourishment, and daily life.

It’s not medication OR nutrition support — for many people, it’s the combination that works best.
