Feeling depressed before your period is something many women experience, but that doesn’t mean it’s something you just have to live with.

Hormones, gut health, inflammation, and nutrient levels can all influence how your brain responds during the luteal phase of your cycle.

When we start looking at the bigger picture, those patterns often start to make a lot more sense.

Most people think of anxiety as something happening only in the brain.

But the gut and brain are constantly communicating through the gut-brain axis, which means what’s happening in your digestive system can directly influence how your nervous system responds.

Here are a few signs your gut might be playing a role:

Your pulse speeds up after meals - When blood sugar spikes and crashes or digestion is struggling, the nervous system can shift into a stress response, causing your heart rate to jump.

Afternoon energy crashes - These often point to blood sugar instability or poor nutrient absorption, both of which can stress the body and trigger anxious or jittery feelings.

Sugar craving - Cravings can be driven by imbalances in gut bacteria or unstable blood sugar. Certain microbes actually signal the brain to seek out sugar.

Digestive discomfort - Bloating, reflux, or irregular digestion can trigger inflammation and disrupt the gut-brain connection, which can influence mood and anxiety levels.

When we start looking at the gut, blood sugar, inflammation, and the nervous system together, these patterns start to make a lot more sense.

Save this for later and share it with someone who’s been told their anxiety is “just stress.”

Feeling dismissed doesn’t mean your symptoms aren’t real.

It might just mean it’s time to dig deeper.

“Unexplained fertility” is a term I struggle with.

Not because the journey isn’t real, but because unexplained doesn’t always mean unexplainable.

Often, it just means certain layers haven’t been explored yet.

When someone is told everything looks “fine” but they’re still struggling, that’s not where the conversation should end. There are more questions to ask.

There are more tests to run.

And there is often more information to uncover. If this resonates with you, send me a DM, and let’s talk about what digging deeper could look like for you.

If you feel like you’ve tried everything and still don’t have answers...I see you.

Maybe you’ve cleaned up your diet.
Taken the supplements.
Seen multiple providers.
Run “basic” labs.

And you’re still dealing with the same symptoms.

At some point, it’s not about trying harder; it’s about looking deeper.

If you’re ready for a different conversation about your health, let’s chat.

We’ll review your symptoms, talk through testing options, and figure out what your next step should be.
