Today I had the opportunity to be a vendor at the Northfield Farmers Market for the second time this summer. What an amazing opportunity to be out in the community and to educate others about what we do and facilitate activities that focus on expressing emotions!

People may be familiar with this book at the elementary school level with interventions led by a school counselor as a social/emotional lesson on empathy and kindness. We adapted this concept to help a toddler navigate big feelings related to sharing and stop physical behaviors like hitting or pushing. In this incentive based intervention, the child decorated a “bucket” and every time the child displays acts of kindness and is a “bucket filler” they get to put marbles in the cup. If they display “bucket dipper” tendencies or unkind behaviors, marbles are taken away. Once the bucket is filled up, the child gets special praise and a dance party. Have you filled up your bucket today?
