One of the first questions I ask parents “did your child have a good crawl with both legs and arms working together” if they say no, I call in my OT friend Brittany at Achieving Milestones, LLC. Crawling is one of the first signs of both hemispheres of our brain working together. Which is critical for language and literacy development!

🚼 Let’s talk about crawling — and why it still matters.

Crawling plays a CRITICAL role in early development:

✨ Builds communication between both sides of the brain

💪 Strengthens the core, shoulders, and hands

👀 Supports visual tracking and eye coordination

🧠 Helps integrate primitive reflexes !!!!

🧭 Lays the foundation for walking, posture, and fine motor skills

Milestones are meant to guide development, not rush it. 🙌🏼✨

Just because crawling was removed from the list from CDC doesn’t mean it’s no longer important. Like WOW how can they even….. 🤯

ACTIVITIES TO TRY 🎉
— Place favorite toys just out of reach to motivate movement
— Create a pillow or couch-cushion obstacle course to move over
— Use tunnels, pop-up tents, or cardboard boxes
— Get down on the floor and crawl together
— Roll a ball slowly away and encourage baby to chase it for endurance

Fun fact: you actually want your baby to crawl for 2-3 months before walking, crazy right! 😆

Now Offering Orton-Gillingham Structured Literacy Services!

I’m excited to share that I am now offering Orton-Gillingham–based structured literacy intervention for children who are struggling with reading, spelling, and early literacy skills.

I am currently completing my Associate certification through the Orton-Gillingham Academy and am offering Associate-in-Training rates during this phase, while still providing high-quality, evidence-based instruction rooted in the OG approach.

While Orton-Gillingham training deepens and refines instructional skills, it’s important to know that as a speech-language pathologist, I already bring a strong foundation in language development, phonological awareness, sound-symbol relationships, and literacy-based intervention. I have been working with school-aged children to support reading and literacy development for over 5 years, and OG training strengthens and enhances the skills I already use in practice.

🕒 45-minute sessions
📚 Ideal for children with reading difficulties or dyslexia-related concerns
✨ Limited founding family spots available

As always, my goal is to meet children where they are and build strong, confident readers using structured, supportive, and child-centered instruction.

📩 Message me or email to learn more or reserve a spot!

✨ Today I have had the incredible opportunity to spend a day learning directly from Jennie Bjorem herself at a one-day Bjorem Speech event! We dug deep into best practices for helping children with Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS).

CAS is a motor speech disorder that makes it hard for kids to plan and coordinate the precise movements needed for clear speech. Children with apraxia need specialized assessment and treatment that looks very different from typical speech therapy.

If you’ve ever wondered whether your child’s speech struggles might be more than just a delay, please don’t wait, early identification and the right therapy can make a world of difference.

💛 I’m always here to answer your questions, talk through concerns, and help you find the right next step for your child.
