Despite our best efforts, kids can learn about scary events happening near and far from home. This deck and linked infographic provide helpful steps for starting conversations.

"It is often said that it takes a village to raise a child, but what does it take to nurture a village or a neighbourhood to become a community where every child can grow up well and belong?
With questions like this one in mind, we invite you to join us at a free webinar event focused on Child Welfare through a Community-Centred Lens.
Join us on May 14 at 4.00 p.m. (London) for a discussion featuring:
Dr. Bruce Perry, co-author of the #1 New York Times bestseller, "What Happened to You?'. Dr Perry will explore the profound impact of relationships on healing from trauma, especially in children. His evidence-based research demonstrates the crucial role of a healthier, more connected society in preventing trauma and encouraging healing.
Cormac Russell will advocate for a shift in perspective from viewing children merely as 'at risk' to recognizing them as 'at-promise'. He will emphasize the importance of community-led approaches in nurturing and protecting children.
This session will be moderated by Melissa T. Merrick, PhD, President and CEO of Prevent Child Abuse America. Melissa is an influential national leader in this movement and is committed to preventing child abuse and neglect through evidence-based solutions and collaborative community-based efforts."

*Are you looking for a way to reset your nervous system?
*Do you find yourself in a state of bracing or tension much of the time?
*Or maybe you are a caregiver for a child with a vulnerable nervous system and are in need to co-regulation, soothing and safety?
Whatever your circumstances, life feels especially hard for many of us right now. Finding moments of safety, rest and delight can feel beyond our capacity.
And, as you likely know, there is a cost to being in protection mode all or much of the time...
[Deep breath]
The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) might be a useful experience and tool for you.
(It has certainly become an important tool for my own nervous system care over the last 6+ years.)
The SSP is a music-based intervention designed by Dr. Stephen Porges, to re-tune the nervous system from a chronic state of "protection" (fight/flight/freeze, collapse) to a more flexible and responsive system with greater access to a state of "connection." Dr. Porges found that middle tones of sound are associated with cues of safety (think of the ways we naturally talk to babies in that sing-songy way). These become lifelong cues of safety but when we experience chronic stress or trauma our nervous system widens the net, so to speak, searching for sounds of approaching danger. This makes it more difficult for us to take in those soothing tones and return to safety.

Are you familiar with glimmers?
We often hear the term “triggers” but “glimmers” (a term created by Deb Dana) refers to those micro-moment experiences that bring safety (maybe even joy or delight) to our nervous system.
A friend recently asked a group I am in to share some of our recent, noticeable glimmers, and I found the experience of conjuring them up a glimmer all by itself!
Here is my quick in-the-moment list:
*Soaking up the 🌞 and these towering pines 🌲 on Mondays. (Picture below)
*Hearing the “roar” of chirping birds through my window in the morning.
*Noticing my 🐰(bunny) has planted herself right at my feet or as close as possible to a 🐱.
*The signs of green and yellow peeking out of trees and bushes this time of year.
*My favorite green tea when I get the lemon:sweetness just right!
*The bright sunshine reflecting off the new coral walls in our bathroom.
In times of difficulty, it can be hard to come up with many (or even one) glimmers. There can be so much grief in having lost our most favorite sources of glimmers. When our lives change due to the intense needs of a loved one, a death, job change or a new stage of family or parenting, we often have to re-orient and search for even smaller moments of safety or new spaces where we can be safe, seen and soothed.
What are some of your glimmers from today or this week? Hunting for glimmers can be a fun pursuit at any age. 😄

Hello!!
I have some new things in the works including this book club.
This book club is intended for parents, guardians and others who love and care for kids with neuro-complexity, vulnerable nervous systems, big behaviors or other unique needs that require a departure from conventional parenting.
You have likely tried all the things and have found your way, albeit wobbly at times, to a style that works, until one of you or your circumstances change (again)... scan the QR code to read more and fill out the interest form if it sounds like a good fit.
My intention is to create as low demand of a book club as possible, given that life and parenting are already A LOT!

Inspiring greater connection, health and joy in families with young children
Hi and welcome to my page! I am Jeri Lea.
I am a parent coach and psychotherapist and my passion is supporting YOU, parents with babies and young children, and your relationships with one another!
Our earliest relationships and experiences create the foundation for our ability to grow into the unique people we are meant to be. That can feel like a lot of weight on a parent’s shoulders. As a parent myself, I understand!
At the same time, I know that you are the greatest source of knowledge and healing for your children. Challenges (including developmental, emotional, sensory and behavioral) can often be addressed early and holistically (seeing the whole child within the family and community). Together, there is much we can do to uncover the meaning of your child's behaviors, reflect on and shift perspectives, parenting practices and strengthen your relationships.
I bring a holistic perspective to my work as a parent coach and psychotherapist combining more than 20 years of experience as an early childhood therapist and consultant with training in attachment, trauma, relational neurosciences, holistic nutrition, infant massage, movement and music. And as an adoptee and adoptive parent I also offer a unique blend of experience and perspective to those considering or navigating adoptive parenting.
On this page I offer curated resources to support and encourage parents, caregivers and professionals working within the infant/early childhood and family fields.
