Join us for a wonderful evening with local author Joe Salerno to celebrate his new novel The Decision. Joe is a passionate advocate for Alzheimer's research and awareness, so to contribute to this cause we are donating 20% of proceeds from this event to the List Academy of Music, an organization that provide a variety of interactive music ensembles to promote healing, improve quality of life and bring joy to seniors with or without Alzheimer's.

When is doing the right thing the wrong answer?

Jonathan Silverman is a well-respected attorney who finds himself drawn into the tumultuous worlds of pharmaceutical research and criminal enterprise when he’s approached by a small start-up that developed a revolutionary dementia treatment seeking his help with a newly filed class-action lawsuit.

As Jonathan contemplates representing the company, his father is diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s. Despite his world being turned upside down by the devastating prognosis, agreeing to defend the company will provide him with an opportunity to fight for a groundbreaking therapy that may help his father.

As the litigation progresses, Jonathan’s path collides with MJ Fernandez, an intrepid investigative reporter who questions the lawsuit's timing and the FDA’s approval of a new drug by an obscure company about to launch its IPO. MJ is convinced that something is amiss with this company and their wunderkind founder. Reluctantly, they join forces to confront a ruthless investor determined to see the IPO move forward, no matter the cost.

Together, they balance on the tightrope of legality in search of the truth, only to find themselves in a no-win situation and fearing for their lives and the lives of those they love.

A creative yet treacherous solution emerges, but it requires Jonathan to make an impossible decision—a decision no one should ever have to make.

Joe Salerno is a retired insurance executive who lives in Rhode Island with his wife of over thirty-four years. They have two talented daughters, and they relish any opportunity to spoil their two amazing grandsons.

When not behind the keyboard working to bring stories and characters to life, Joe can be found at any number of golf courses searching the woods for an errant shot, sitting at the bridge table sharpening his burgeoning skills, or at an airport waiting to board a flight to whatever locale his wife has identified as their next destination.

Having witnessed the staggering impact of dementia firsthand, Joe has become a passionate and engaged advocate of the innovative work done every day by the Alzheimer's Association.

ThamesGiving is so proud to support the List Academy of Music as they celebrate their ribbon cutting and recognize Alzheimer's Awareness month Friday evening at the Newport Yacht Club, Long Wharf. This free event is welcome to all!

List Academy has invited award-winning investigative reporter Greg O'Brien to begin the evening by sharing his personal story about his battle with early-onset Alzheimer's disease. Following Greg's talk and book signing List Academy of Music, Inc. will conduct ~12 Active Seniors in a new musical ensemble group called "The Legends" to perform several well-known songs while employing the C.H.I.M.E. Method of cognitive therapy [aka Cognitive Health Interactive Music Ensemble.]

We can't wait to kick off ThamesGiving 2024 with this dynamic group of Newporters! 🎶
