Our Youth Health Advisory Council (YHAC) members were in action today hosting a fun and educational Germ Awareness Event between the Yellow and Red Cafeterias! 🦠✨

Students stopped by to learn all about germs—how they spread and how to protect themselves and others. We had interactive stations with educational information, a hands-on germ activity using paper and soap, and a trivia game that got everyone thinking about which everyday items carry the most germs!

To keep the energy going, participants had the chance to win prizes like hand sanitizers, lotions, and antibacterial wipes—helping promote healthy habits while having fun.

Missed us today? Don’t worry! Catch us tomorrow between the Green and Azure Cafeterias for Part 2 of our Germ Awareness Event. You won’t want to miss it!

Our Youth Health Advisory Council (YHAC) members truly showed up and showed out at the Atrius Foundation Youth Health Summit! 🌟

From behind the scenes to center stage, our youth played powerful roles in making this event a success. Some of our members were part of the planning process, helping shape a meaningful and impactful summit. Others stepped into the spotlight as panelists, sharing their voices, experiences, and perspectives on important health topics. Also the role of MCs, confidently leading the event and keeping the energy strong throughout.

This is what youth leadership looks like—engaged, empowered, and making real change in their communities. We are incredibly proud of each and every one of them for representing YHAC with professionalism, passion, and purpose. 👏

The future of healthcare and community leadership is bright! đź’™

Our Career Step students are putting their skills into action! 🩺💪

Recently, they’ve been learning and practicing different methods of blood pressure measurement, including regular blood pressure readings, palpatory blood pressure, and orthostatic blood pressures. Through hands-on experience, they’re building the confidence and accuracy needed for real clinical settings.

From understanding the importance of proper technique to recognizing how position changes can impact readings, our students are gaining valuable knowledge that will support them in their future healthcare careers.

We’re proud to see their growth and dedication as they continue developing essential patient care skills!

The Hometown Healthcare Academy Youth Health Advisory Council (YHAC) successfully hosted engaging Substance Awareness Events this past Tuesday and Thursday in between the cafeterias at BHS!

Students had the opportunity to learn about the realities of substance use, its impact on the body and mind, and how it can affect their future. YHAC members shared important facts and information, led interactive trivia games, and created meaningful conversations with their peers.

One of the highlights of the event was the use of impairment simulation goggles, allowing students to experience how substances can affect vision, coordination, and reaction time. This hands-on activity helped bring awareness to the real-life dangers of being impaired.

These events were all about empowering our peers with knowledge, breaking stigmas, and promoting a healthier community. We are proud of our YHAC members for taking the lead and making a difference!

Our Youth Health Advisory Council had the privilege of welcoming Dalwin and Tina Marie from the Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers to speak with our youth about the importance of public health and the powerful history behind community health centers.

They shared how community health centers were created to ensure that everyone—regardless of income, background, or insurance status—has access to quality healthcare. Our youth also learned how these centers have played a vital role in addressing health disparities and supporting communities across Massachusetts.

It was an inspiring and educational conversation that helped our youth better understand the impact of public health and the role they can play as future advocates for healthier communities.

Thank you, Dalwin and Tina Marie, for taking the time to share your knowledge and for inspiring the next generation of public health leaders!
