NEW YORK CITY!! It’s been a whirlwind advocating for a trauma-informed city. From traveling upstate NY to chat with senators on what we can do to spread awareness about ACEs, to educating doctors and healthcare organizations about ACEs, it’s clear we’ve got work to do. Our doctors NEED to be trauma-informed and ACEs Aware—ACEs are linked to 9/10 of the leading causes of death in the US! This includes heart disease, diabetes, pulmonary diseases, cancer, su***de, and more! Can you believe that a very large portion of our doctors AND many mental health providers have NEVER heard of ACEs? 🤔

New Yorkers, it’s time to be more hands-on with our health than we’ve EVER been before! As we work to bridge these gaps in our healthcare system, let’s remember that doctors and healthcare providers are people too. Many of them are also survivors of ACEs and we continue to see the numbers climb concerning compassion fatigue and burnout amongst clinicians. This initiative has to be collaborative. 🫶🏽

WE CHALLENGE YOU! The next time you visit the doctor’s office, ask your doctor if they’ve ever heard of the Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) Study. If they say no, it’s on you to educate them.

Start by educating yourself using this video. As you watch this video, remember that “ACEs are NOT destiny…ACEs are a tool for understanding the health of a population as a whole. For individuals, an ACE score can be a tool for understanding their own risk for health and social problems and empower them to make changes for themselves and their children.”
