My body suffered massive muscle loss through covid. For the past 2 weeks I’ve been working every day to build back up what was very quickly lost with lack of daily training, plus covid, plus lack of motivation.
Things got pretty grim this past year, so I’m grateful to my amazing friend and trainer ( he doesn’t have instagram YET) for kicking me back into shape.
This may not be a popular thing to say but yoga isn’t going to make you strong in the long run. In order to build strength ( and lasting strength) one must build muscle and the only way to do that is strength training, some targeted HIT workouts and weight training. This will support your body in the long run. Yoga practice alone and only yoga practice is not a complete practice. Shorter targeted training is more effective and better for your joints and muscles. Keep practicing !

PROGRESSION: Build up slowly. Steps towards your goals can’t be rushed. BHUJAPIDASANA variations. I’ve battled with this pose on and off over the years. Tight hips, shoulders, coming back to it seems like the first time. But each time it’s a rewarding experience.

Why Yoga Matters in a material world.

My practice started back in 1998. I took my first yoga class during my ever exploratory college years, and much like dance, the uninterrupted flow of the practice soothed my ever present need to connect to physicality and movement. What took place over the years was a test of my patience, commitment and my need to better understand the world around me and my place in it.

Ultimately what I wanted was to be less of an as***le to myself and to others. Spiritual journeys take twists and turns and now at the 20th (almost 21st year) of my yoga travels, the inner practices are much more prevalent and necessary.
