A great feed to follow for new or experienced clinicians alike

Here are 5 things I’ve learned since I’ve started flying

1. Sick is sicker in the air.
What’s stable on the ground might not stay that way in flight. Altitude exposes every weak link—vent settings, perfusion, compensation—there’s no room for “good enough.”

2. You have to really know your why.
The pace, pressure, and expectations are high. This job will humble you fast. If you’re not grounded in purpose, burnout isn’t a matter of if—it’s when.

3. There’s no room for ego.
Critical care is a team sport. From the pilot to your partner to the facility nurse—you’re not the hero, you’re part of a system. Ego gets in the way of safety and learning.

4. Training never ends.
Every flight is a learning opportunity. From vent tweaks to medication drips to scene safety—you’re expected to keep leveling up. It’s intense, but it’s addicting in the best way.

5. Flying doesn’t make you better. Growth does.
Putting on a flight suit doesn’t automatically make you a great clinician. It’s the mindset, the discipline, and the willingness to grow that sets you apart—on the ground or in the air.
